Position Overview
The Head of Customs Strategy will play a pivotal role in executing Zonos’ customs clearance strategy during a key transition period. This role combines deep customs expertise with strategic implementation and cross-functional collaboration. You will lead efforts to move from qualified provider status to standardized entry processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and contribute to Zonos’ participation in the CBP Trade Solutions Pilot. This position will also identify and help shape opportunities that advance Zonos’ position in the evolving customs and trade landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Strategy & Implementation
- Develop and execute a focused customs strategy for the transition from qualified provider status to standardized entry processes.
- Support Zonos’ long-term positioning in customs clearance and brokerage services in the U.S. and globally.
- Provide expert guidance on regulatory alignment and customs modernization initiatives.
CBP Partnership & Compliance
- Act as a key contributor to Zonos’ CBP Trade Solutions Pilot participation.
- Prepare deliverables and documentation that position Zonos for future CBP contracts.
- Monitor and interpret customs regulations, ensuring full compliance across processes and systems.
Market Development & Innovation
- Identify new opportunities for revenue and efficiency in customs clearance, brokerage, and related services.
- Conduct market and competitor analysis to anticipate shifts in the customs and logistics ecosystem.
- Evaluate build-vs-buy-vs-partner decisions for customs capabilities and make recommendations to leadership.
Product & Technology Collaboration
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to define customs-related product needs and ensure technical alignment.
- Translate regulatory requirements into actionable product and operational specifications.
- Support due diligence on potential technology partnerships and acquisition targets within the customs domain.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in customs brokerage, international trade, or a related field.
- Proven experience navigating regulatory transitions and implementing compliant operations.
- Familiarity with CBP systems (ACE, ABI) and modernization initiatives.
- Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across business and technical teams.
