WHO YOU ARE
Our Wood Mill Operator 3 works under supervision of foreman encompassing the skills of Decksaw/Debarker, Turning Operator, Forklift, Ripsaw/Offbear, Dowler, and Yardman/Loader.
WHERE YOU WILL WORK
Our wood mill is located in McClure PA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Decksaw/Debarker - Operates electrically powered machines equipped with one or more saw blades, and/or chains to debark logs and cut logs to length by performing the following duties:
• Operate and maintain the debarker and decksaw. Maintains and replaces deck saw chains.
• Record number of logs and volume of logs. Verifies accuracy of saw setting and length of logs.
• Cut logs to length for the most efficient use of logs for dowel production.
• Starts saw, positions log against guide, slides log into feed rolls or aligns log on feed rolls.
• Records logs cut to determine when specified quantity has been debarked and cut to length.
• Replaces saw blades, chains, and lubricates machinery.
Turning Operator
• Operates Moulder, Chucking Machine, and Finger Joint Machine.
• Quality inspection of handles while banding.
• Performs daily safety checks and maintenance on equipment.
Forklift - Transports and places equipment, machinery, and loads of dowels or handles by:
• Loads and unloads kilns. Moves pallets of dowels from kiln piler to kiln staging area.
• Attaches identity card to stacks of lumber and records number of stacks by species for supervisor.
• Quality control inspection of dowels while stacking. Bands and checks pallets for end cracks and proper identification.
• Places dowels and finished third party material in warehouse; moves material in and out of third party area.
• Position full pallets of material to stretch wrap equipment. Attach film to pallet and stretch wrap material.
• Dumps hopper of waste wood and bands and removes slabs and edgings as required.
• Performs daily safety checks on equipment; Clean and service equipment and change LP tanks as required.
• Loads or unloads planks, squares, and dowels as required from conveyors.
• Keeps empty pallet area supplied with proper pallet lengths and sizes.
• Checks pallets for correct recording and counts for regular sawmill production and Third Party.
Yardman/Loader - Performs activities for loading, unloading, storing, transferring, and distributing logs in yard of sawmill by performing the following duties:
• Confers with sawmill personnel and plans and allocates use of materials handling equipment such as conveyors, cranes, front end loader, picker truck, tractors and trucks.
• Scale and pick-up incoming wood deliveries, as required. Interact with loggers and delivery persons as required.
• Maintain rick system and organization of logs. Keeps records of materials received and used.
• Inspects incoming materials and verifies invoices. Inspects yard machines and yard equipment and performs needed maintenance and repair work.
• Adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
• Maintains office records dealing with shipments and production records.
Ripsaw/Offbear - Sets up and operates ripsaw and plank deck to cut planks into squares by performing the following duties:
• Ability to operate electrically powered machinery and able to perform saw blade changes and other machinery maintenance.
• Positions plank from head saw and rips boards along grain or trims board’s edges to obtain best yield.
• Position and secure collars and turn saw shafts to adjust cutting. Check height of saws and verify the accuracy of cuts.
• Loosens table stops and guides and positions them to align and secure workpiece.
• Works closely with dowel machine operator to maintain best pace and quality.
Dowler - Sets up and operates ripsaw and plank deck to cut planks into squares by performing the following duties:
• Discards edgings created at ripsaw.
• Quality control on squares, scans and pulls defects.
• Feeds dowels correctly to prevent jams. Breaks jams as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to complete simple math, to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
Industrial lift truck certification.
