Duties

Provides audiometric testing and audiology services to members at the Medical Treatment Facility within Defense Health agency serving department or area of responsibility.,Performs hearing conservation services; and, independently selects, administers and interprets the full range of consultative and diagnostic procedures to patients of all ages.,Works with a wide variety hearing disorders in neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients.,Provides consultative assistance to other military medical treatment facilities in the area as needed on diagnostic site of lesion testing and rehabilitative audiology.,Maintains a working knowledge of techniques used to evaluate the vestibular system in order to diagnose and treat individuals with dizziness and balance disorders.,Manages the Hearing Program and the Hearing Readiness Support for the organization.,Uses appropriate regulatory guidance to determine eligibility for care as it relates to active duty, retired service members and their families.,Schedules direct and indirect audiology related service activities; and, documents professional contacts and clinical reports in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Audiologist: Education: Successful completion of a graduate or higher-level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. The education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (external link) (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (external link) (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application package). License: A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (You must provide a copy of your license as part of your application package). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating audiology patients; developing audiology treatment plans; and counseling or educating patients on audiology treatment plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
