Under general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for completing maintenance tasks to preserve the quality of a facility.   Duties include conducting routing maintenance checks, conducting minor repairs and maintaining an inventory of tools and cleaning supplies.

As the Building Maintenance Technician, you will:

  • Perform general building maintenance tasks including but not limited to changing light bulbs, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, basic HVAC maintenance, parking lights repairs, light fixture installations and door repairs.
  • Conduct minor plumbing repairs such as replacing or fixing toilet fixtures, repairing sink faucets, and addressing water leaks.
  • Make keys; installs locksets and maintains or adjusts doors and related hardware.
  • Perform minor painting of City buildings as needed.
  • Conduct monthly inspections of fire extinguishers across all City facilities.
  • Operate a variety of machines and power tools, including drills (electric and battery operated), grinders, floor burnishers, carpet extractors, and sweepers.
  • Oversee and performs roof maintenance; inspects roof conditions and cleans gutters and drains.
  • Open and inspects assigned facilities each morning to ensure proper functioning and cleanliness.
  • Set up and arranges meeting rooms and event spaces as required.
  • Clean and sanitizes facilities, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, and disinfecting floors, offices, furnishings, fixtures and equipment.  Cleans windows, screens, sills, walls, ceilings, and other surfaces using appropriate cleaning agents. 
  • Report the need for major repairs, equipment or supply replenishment to Supervisor.
  • Transport, lift, and distribute supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Respond to coworkers’ inquiries courteously, provides accurate information within assigned areas, and resolves complaints efficiently and promptly.
  • Respond to maintenance and custodial assistance requests from City departments.
  • Empty, cleans and sanitizes trash receptacles and collects litter from facilities and surrounding areas.
  • Perform operational errands as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Duties

Will possess knowledge of:

  • Basic understanding of essential mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades.
  • Familiarity with common tools and equipment such as wrenches, screwdrivers, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Machinery and mechanical systems
  • Proficiency in working with electrical circuits and systems
  • Understanding of plumbing systems and fixtures
  • Maintenance, cleaning and calibrating equipment to maintain performance
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records
  • Sanitary standards and disease/infection control techniques.
  • Safety practices and procedures.
 
Will have the ability to:
  • Use cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Perform manual cleaning and maintenance tasks which may include heavy lifting.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Determine, and provide appropriate landscape care and maintenance.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with others.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Equivalent experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.

Licenses & Certification:
All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment.

  • A valid Arizona drivers’ license at the time of appointment

Special Requirements:
  • Residency in the United States and within 25 miles of the City of San Luis. 

Desired/Preferred:
  • San Luis residency 
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this class, an employee uses written and oral communication skills; reads and interprets data, information and documents; analyzes and solves problems; uses math and mathematical reasoning; performs highly detailed work and multiple concurrent tasks; and interacts with colleagues and members of the public, including occasional interactions with dissatisfied individuals. 

Work Environment 
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); frequent exposure to hazardous materials (such as cleaning chemicals); and frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, movement restrictions, intense noise or travel.
