Person County DSS is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and skilled Social Worker III to join our Adult and Family Services Unit, specializing in Adult Protective Services (APS) and Guardianship Services.

As a Social Worker III, you will play a vital role in protecting and empowering adults in need. You’ll conduct assessments, develop and implement service plans, and coordinate interventions to promote safety, independence, and quality of life. This position requires sound judgment, empathy, and the ability to balance client autonomy with the need for protection and care.

The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.

This is a non-exempt position working 37.5 hours weekly/1950 hours annually.

Position Duties

• Adult Protective Services social worker who will evaluate reports of abuse, neglect and exploitation of persons age 18 years and older and is disabled. This worker will implement treatment service plans as needed.   If the report does not meet the criteria for Adult Protective Services, this worker may offer Outreach Services to the adult named in the report.
• A worker in this position acts as the Guardianship / designee for persons adjudicated incompetent on behalf of the DSS Director.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; 
• Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only);
• Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; 
• Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; 
• Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; 
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.

Other Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
