This is an unpaid fellowship through the Department of Defense (DoD) SkillBridge Program. The fellow selected for this role will not receive compensation or benefits from GDIT and will not be an employee, agent or contractor of GDIT but rather will remain an employee of the DoD and will receive compensation and benefits through the DoD.

Job Description:

Transform technology into opportunity as a Battle Captain Fellow with GDIT. This SkillBridge opportunity provides transitioning service members with hands-on experience in enterprise IT and mission command operations, supporting NETCOM’s GEF mission. At GDIT, you’ll work with systems that matter most, contributing to innovation and helping improve how agencies operate. As a Battle Captain Fellow, you will gain operational experience, develop technical skills, and receive mentorship from experienced GDIT personnel, preparing you to pursue potential opportunities in a full-time Battle Captain role.


HOW A BATTLE CAPTAIN FELLOW WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Support day-to-day operations for the GEF mission, ensuring communication between the operations floor and government leadership.

  • Work directly with the Operations Capability Manager (CM) to gain hands-on experience in incident management, operational reporting, and shift leadership.

  • Assist in managing BC personnel schedules and shift coverage under guidance from senior staff.

  • Review, edit, distribute, and maintain the GEF Daily Status Brief, TTPs, SOPs, and other operational procedures.

  • Participate in operational briefings and multi-shift handovers to build practical knowledge of GEF mission operations.

  • Submit, track, and monitor ITSM (Remedy) tickets, providing tier 1 support and triage under mentorship.

  • Support operational and physical security for all rooms under GEF responsibility, including DISS clearance verification.

  • Collaborate with team leadership regarding personnel and operational requirements.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Experience: 2–5 years of related operational or IT experience, or equivalent education.

  • Certifications: 8570 IAT Level II (CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, or SSCP) and a computing environment certification in ITIL, Windows Server, VMware, SharePoint, or similar technology within six months of hire.

  • Technical Skills: Triage user requests, manage ITSM (Remedy) tickets, DISS access verification, and general operational support.

  • Security Clearance: SECRET.

  • Abilities & Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, teamwork, and adaptability in dynamic operational environments.

  • Location & Citizenship: On-site at Fort Huachuca, AZ; U.S. citizenship required.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:

  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty

  • Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement

  • Will receive an honorable discharge

  • Has taken any service TAP/TGPS

  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months

Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.
