Summary
In this role you will install, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and analyze the performance of protection and control equipment, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and associated communication devices. This will be completed to ensure proper operation of system protection relaying schemes and SCADA systems to eliminate or limit damage, prevent the spread of system disturbances, reduce the number and duration of customer outages, and to minimize the probability of an ultimate cascading electrical system blackout.
This role will be on-site 5 days a week based out of our Dallas Southwest Service Center.
Level I
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Install protection and control facilities, modifies designs as needed, tests and calibrates protection and SCADA equipment, and provides direction for the technical aspects of substation construction projects in transmission switching stations, load serving substations, generation switchyards, and interconnection facilities with other companies to ensure that the appropriate protection and control facilities are installed safely without adversely affecting electric service.
- Develop testing plans and tests and maintains protective relaying equipment, relaying schemes, associated communication equipment, and SCADA systems to ensure that protection and control facilities operate as designed and to ensure system integrity and the reliable and secure operation of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) bulk power transmission grid and the power delivery system.
- Monitor and analyzes the performance of the protection and control system, analyzes digital fault recorder information, investigates questionable operation, troubleshoots and repairs the protection and control system, and recommends programmatic solutions as needed to ensure system integrity and the reliable and secure operation of the ERCOT bulk power transmission grid and the power delivery system.
- Develop written procedures for use by Protection & Control Technicians and craft personnel to help ensure that construction and maintenance activities are conducted safely without unnecessary system exposure, customer interruption, or facility interruption.
- Provide technical direction to the transmission work center in areas such as system operations, breaker and regulator control systems, system fault analysis and fault location, and mobile equipment installation to help insure the safe reliable operation of the transmission system.
- Provide technical direction and performs emergency protection system modifications and high voltage switching to restore electrical service without unsafely exposing the electrical system.

Education and Experience
- Candidates with a Highschool Diploma, GED, or equivalent are required.

Level II (in addition to Level I responsibilities)
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Performs all work assignments consistent with the Oncor Distribution Safety Handbook.
- May direct the work of other P&C Technicians, Oncor Distribution personnel, and/or contract personnel.
- Ensures the initial accuracy and performance of distribution protection, control, monitoring, and automation systems through the use of proper installation and commissioning processes & procedures.
- Ensures ongoing accurate performance of protection, control, monitoring, and automation systems through the executing of effective testing, calibration, monitoring, maintenance, and analysis processes & procedures.
- Evaluates and provides analysis of various diagnostic test results, recommending remedial action plans when test results warrant.
- Assists in the development of testing procedures and data accumulation methods for load studies; operational tests; and effective preventative maintenance of Oncor protection, control, monitoring, and automation equipment.
- Maintains documentation regarding the design and maintenance of installed protection, control, monitoring, and automation systems on the Oncor Distribution system.
- Ensures the reliability and operation of Distribution Network systems, submitting actions items required for successful operation of the Oncor distribution system.
- Works closely with vendors, manufactures, and Oncor engineering groups in researching, developing, and implementing new technology.
- Provides and/or assists in the training of developing P&C Technicians and other personnel to ensure that the necessary skills and knowledge of Oncor policies, rules, safe work practices, and procedures are uniformly developed and applied.

Education and Experience

- Candidates with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology or a similar field are encouraged to apply with 5 plus years of related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, candidates with 7 plus years of related experience are encouraged to apply.
- Must possess valid driver’s license.
- Candidates must have completed the necessary Technician Required Objectives (TRO’s) and progression testing requirements set in place by the Transmission Staffing Work Group (TSWG) or have the necessary related comparable experience equal to that of a Tech II and the concurrence of the TSWG committee.
