Job Purpose & Position Overview
The Clinical Informaticist serves as a vital liaison between clinical staff and the utilization of Information Technology, ensuring the effective implementation and optimization of the MEDITECH Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This role focuses on enhancing clinical workflows, improving patient care quality, training clinical staff on the EHR, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations through the strategic use of health information technology.

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the Winnebago Comprehensive Healthcare System’s core mission, vision, and values. 

  • Collaborate with departments to analyze and redesign workflows for optimal use of the MEDITECH EHR system.​ 

  • Provide ongoing support and training to staff on MEDITECH functionalities, ensuring efficient and effective use of the system.  

  • Develop and maintain documentation templates, order sets, and decision support tools within MEDITECH to support evidence-based practice.​ 

  • Participate in the planning, testing, and implementation of system upgrades and new modules, ensuring minimal disruption to healthcare operations.​ 

  • Monitor system performance and user feedback to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.​ 

  • Act as a subject matter expert on clinical informatics, providing insights, and recommendations to leadership on technology initiatives. 

  • Help manage HL7/FHIR interfaces between Meditech and ancillary systems. 

  • Collaborate with Quality and HIM to assure appropriate data reporting for regulatory compliance. 

  • Maintain data dictionaries, definitions, and good EHR governance. 

  • Assist with vendor integrations and API development for interoperability. 

  • Must be comfortable working among all healthcare departments to communicate, collaborate, and solve issues that relate to the EHR and informatics.  

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications


Qualifications/Skills:

  • Degree in Nursing, Health Informatics, or related clinical field preferred.  

  • 3+ years of healthcare experience preferred 

  • Knowledge of and skill in applying IT concepts, principles, and methods to manage and troubleshoot clinical applications for supporting the EHR system. 

  • Experience in MEDITECH Expanse EHR preferred. 

  • Knowledge of healthcare quality improvement methodologies. 

  • Aptitude for systems and strategic thinking, especially toward clinical information technology.  

  • Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • None 

  • Training Requirements: 

  • Must attend all department meetings and training courses as directed by supervisor. 

  • Must attend continuing education as deemed necessary to maintain licenses, funding, or as needed to remain effective. 

  • Physical Requirements: 

  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment. 

  • Light to normal work which includes the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. 

  • While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. 

  • Cognitive Requirements: 

  • Reading, writing, calculating 

  • Above average social interaction skills 

  • Reasoning/Analysis 

  • Works with minimal to no supervision 

  • Language Requirements: 

  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently. 

  • Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills. 

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:

  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
