Position Summary

Under direct supervision, an employee in this class provides individual services to older (aged 62 and above) adult residents of Public Housing and Rental Assistance Demonstration sites. Duties include housekeeping, laundry, personal care, meals, preparing monthly and quarterly reports, maintaining supplies, monitoring program participation, and assisting residents with their personal needs.   Performance of the duties requires knowledge of common housekeeping procedures and equipment.  The employee must be able to work a flexible schedule due to irregular hours or shift schedules, which will include Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

All activities must support the Housing Authority of Baltimore City (“HABC” or “Authority”) mission, strategic goals, and objectives.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties, and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.

  • Provides housekeeping and cleaning tasks to older (aged 62 and above) adult residents by cleaning bathrooms, kitchen, bedroom, etc. Ensures that the residents’ living quarters are safe and well-organized.  Vacuums rooms (floors and carpets) and dusts and wipes up spills and grime.  Mops and sweeps floors.  Picks up debris, discards items as appropriate, and organizes items.  Removes trash for disposal.
  • Serves daily meals to adult (aged 62 and above) residents.  Cleans up after each meal.
  • Assists the older adult residents in personal hygiene, i.e., bathing, washing face and hair.
  • Assists the older adult residents with their laundry.        Washes and dries soiled/worn clothing.  
  • Ensures older adult residents are taking their medication.  Ensures prescribed medication is taken on the proper day and at the proper time, with/without food, as prescribed.  
  • Assists with ensuring that other needs of the older adult residents are met, such as identifying and reporting issues/concerns to Manager, Healthy Aging for resolution.
  • Encourages older adult residents to sign up for participation in programs operated by the Office of Resident Services.        Monitors and tracks older adult resident’s participation and involvement in the programs.
  • Prepares and submits required monthly and quarterly reports; prepares attendance and outreach capacity reports.
  • Maintains needed supplies.

 Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education, Training, and/or Experience

High School Diploma or a GED and a minimum of 1 year of experience providing housekeeping and/or compassionate personal assistance to elderly people.  An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.


Special Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or reliable transportation to travel between HABC properties, prior to being hired.
  • Must be able to be covered under the Authority's fidelity bond. 
  • Must be able to be covered under the Authority's vehicle insurance policy.
  • Must be able to complete Food Safety, Housekeeping, and Personal Care Training, as offered.


Other Requirements:

  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Successful completion of a prescreening investigation, including verification of employment history and education credentials.
  • A 6-month probationary period applies to this full-time permanent position.
