JA Equipment Leasing, Inc., a division of JA Group, Inc.  is currently seeking a full-time, experienced Trailer Service Technician II. This position will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of Class 7 - 8 trailers. Operates vehicles and tests all working parts in various functions to ensure proper operation. The candidate must have experience repairing dry trailers; roll up doors, swing doors, body panel, roofing and floors.  


The schedule is Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm in our Crystal Lake facility.  Some overtime may be required based on work load.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proficient understanding of inspecting and repairing components on 48 and 53 ft dry van trailers and can effectively diagnose and repair the following components;
  1. Suspension components
  2. Landing gear assembly and components
  3. Wheel components and tires
  4. Brake and air components
  5. Electrical, lighting and wiring components
  6. Rear frame and door components
  7. Side, nose and roof components
  8. Interior and floor components
  • Able to thoroughly perform Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • Demonstrate a proficient level of welding and metal fabrication skill.
  • Address all Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write-ups timely and efficiently.
  • Enter data documenting all work performed into Fleet Maintenance System.
  • Perform service calls and test vehicles to ensure quality repair services were performed.
  • Mentor, teach and share expertise with Trailer Technician I’s to aid in their development.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in clean, safe working order.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements, wear proper Personal Protective Equipment as required by the job.
  • Comply with OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Will be required to complete all general company and job specific safety training.
  • Adhere to company and department policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, housekeeping and attendance.
  • Pass ASE Certifications as assigned in your individual development plan.
  • Perform other maintenance duties or assignments as assigned.


Requirements

  • Ability to communicate repair issues to Fleet Manager or lead mechanic daily.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently, completing work in time allotted.
  • Moderate knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
  • Moderate knowledge of EPA environmental regulations.
  • Technicians must provide their own basic tools necessary to perform maintenance inspections and repairs; Diagnostic equipment and major tools provided by JAF.
  • Proficient computer skills.


Education & Experience

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 4 years of Trailer Mechanic experience with 48 and 53 ft dry van trailers and their components.
  • CDL Class A required with no or limited moving violations in previous 3 years.

 

Work Environment

  • Employee is frequently exposed to fumes, dust and airborne particles.
  • Employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • Employee can frequently be exposed to loud noise levels.
  • Employee will be exposed to a variety of outdoor weather conditions.


Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand/walk on feet for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to frequently climb in and out of vehicles.
  • Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects.
  • Must be able to frequently reach overhead with shoulders, arms and hands.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 80 lbs.
  • Must be able to speak, hear and see clearly – have the ability to adjust focus of vision, especially at night.
