Full-time Night CNA/Ward Clerk position on the Med/Surg Floor. 12 hour night shifts (7PM - 7AM), 36 hours / week (72 hours per pay period), every other weekend and holiday.  Shift differential paid for night shift and for weekend shift.  Full-time benefits include:  IPERS, Health, Vision, Dental, Life, Long-term Disability, PTO and Sick Time Accrual starts day one of employment.


Title: Nursing Assistant/Ward Clerk

Primary Function and Relationship to Total Organization:

Assists nurses in providing nursing care.  Works under the direct supervision of an RN.   Assists the nurse in charge by performing clerical duties within the nursing unit and acting as a receptionist.

Director of Nursing/Charge Nurse

Duties and Responsibilities:


  1.  Bathes, feeds and cares for patients according to the level of skill and as directed by a nurse. 

  2.   Reports all significant information to nurse in charge of the patient.

  3.   Works with other health care personnel within the organization.

  4.   Does cleaning of patient units, equipment, and nursing service areas.

  5.   Keeps nurse informed of care rendered and duties performed.

  6.   Answers call lights promptly.


  7.  Delivers patient trays, assists in feeding patients, records amount eaten, and returns trays to kitchen.

  8.   Collects and documents intake and output throughout the shift. 

  9.   Gives verbal report to nursing staff at end of shift.


 10.   Takes BP’s, TPR's and assists with weighing patients as assigned. 

 11.   Assists with transferring patients by wheelchair or cart to other departments

 12.   Assists patients with ambulation and other rehabilitation needs. 

 13.   Complies with hospital and nursing service policies.

 14.   Attends staff meetings and in-service education when appropriate.

 15.   Demonstrates willingness to support staffing and scheduling needs.

 16.   Performs functions other than described above due to extenuating circumstances.

 17.   Maintains skills in computer documentation.

 18.  Assists in Long Term Care and Emergency Department when needed and census on floor allows.

 

When acting as Ward Clerk:

   1.   Acts as receptionist: answers telephone, operates the intercom, and answers questions of visitors as able.

   2.   Delivers messages.

   3.   Keeps patient charts up to date with current information.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

Experience:

Hospital experience preferred.

Education:

High School education or equivalent.  Training in an approved 120 hour nurse aide course or equivalent training preferred.  CPR certification within 3 months of employment.
