The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for a Captain (Assistant Chief of Training). This is a permanent full-time state position located at the Portland Air National Guard Base in Portland, Oregon.
This position is represented by the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) at Oregon Military Department - Portland Air National Guard Firefighters

What You Will be Doing
This position is a Captain of Training in charge of overall fire protection/prevention training activities on a typical Air Force installation. The duties and responsibilities meet the criteria for recognition of the position as an “Captain.” The Captain for Training is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive training program of a sufficient magnitude for all functional areas of the base Fire Protection Flight.
Working Conditions
Work is performed on an active airport with mutual aid provided to nearby fire districts. Work is subject to exposure to hazardous cargo including but not limited to: poison or flammable chemicals, explosives, special weapons, munitions, fuel, weapons storage areas, fuel tank farms, aircraft maintenance, medical waste, body fluids, carbon/boron/graphite and similar fibers, engine exhausts, jet engine intake hazards, aircraft engine propeller hazards, wet/cold/windy/snow/ice/hot conditions, exposure to heights, confined
spaces, and severe noise hazards. Required participation in employers' Drug Free Workplace Program. Includes random testing for alcohol and drugs.
What You Need to Qualify
Four (4) years of experience as a Firefighter or Firefighter Engineer.

Possession of the following certifications:
Emergency Medical Technician or higher (National Registry or State of Oregon)
HazMat Awareness
HazMat Operations
HazMat Incident Commander
Fire Fighter I and II (IFSAC)
Airport Firefighter
Driver/Operator Pumper
Driver/Operator ARFF Vehicle
Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply (MWS)
Fire Instructor I and II
Fire Inspector I and II
Fire Officer I and II
Training additional certification:
Fire Instructor III
Driving state vehicles on a regular basis is required to accomplish this work. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license, issued by the state where the employee resides, and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Military Department "secret" security clearance
Satisfactory annual physical examination
Satisfactory annual physical assessment in accordance with NFPA 1582 standards
Successful completion of Combined Physical Ability Test (CPAT) upon initial hire to the department

Additional Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Conditions of Employment
The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid DoD Confidential Security Clearance (T3). Duties and responsibilities include unescorted access to restricted areas that may contain classified equipment or materials up to secret level.
Must obtain and maintain Restrictive Area Badge and Port of Portland Airport driving badge.
This position is 56 hours work week and supports operational staff.
Compensation for scheduled FLSA overtime. Subject to emergency recall.
Satisfactory annual physical assessment in accordance with NFPA 1582 standards.
Satisfactory annual physical examination.
Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with OMD Drug/Alcohol CPM’s, Policies, and the Statewide Drug Free Workplace Policy 50-000-01.
