Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Student Wellness and Support Services and managed by the THRIVE: School Mental Health Manager, the class of School Crisis Counselors works in a school setting with children, parents and families. School Crisis Counselors perform work under the supervision of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and counsel children and parents who have experienced emotional, mental, or situational crises and traumatic events which hamper their ability to learn. Requirements / Qualifications

Education Required: Master's degree in Social Work or related field Experience Required: One (1) year experience working with school age children in an educational or social services setting. Experience working with "at risk" students preferred. Experience with working in crisis situations, and with individuals faced with trauma. Preferred: K-12 experience Special License, certification or other requirements: Registration with the California Board of Behavioral Science as an Associate Clinical Social Worker or a registered associate in a related field. Special License, certification or other requirements: The ability to read, write and converse in English and Spanish is preferred. Physical Requirements: Employees must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of a position with or without reasonable accommodation and without hazard to themselves or others. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone. Seeing to monitor student behavior and read a variety of materials.Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned instructional equipment. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
