The Sutter County Library is seeking a Library Technician to join their team! Candidates bilingual in Spanish, Farsi, or Punjabi are preferred, but all candidates are encouraged to apply.
Under general direction, a Library Technician performs a variety of complex technical library duties and paraprofessional activities in varied phases of library operations; may supervise the work of Library Assistants; performs related work as required.
Position Duties
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.
1. Performs all duties in area of assignment, which may include technical processing, teen services, or branch library.
2. Promotes library services by providing programs, displaying collections, participating in grant activities, developing community public relations.
3. Participates in collection development, including selection of new material, and deletion of outdated material.
4. Provides reference and reader’s advisory assistance; supervises and troubleshoots public computer use.
5. Catalogs materials; maintains related databases.
6. Provides all circulation functions at branch libraries.
7. Develops and implements the teen services program.
8. Assists in the development and enforcement of library policies and procedures, and in creating solutions to library problems.
9. Participates in staff meetings, workshops and training.
EXAMPLES OF MARGINAL DUTIES
1. May perform the duties of various departmental positions as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Standard library practices, policies, procedures; library services; collections and classification systems; library programs and their relationship to community needs; computer applications and searching techniques; general literature, periodicals, reference materials; modern office practices and procedures including filing and record keeping methods.
Ability to:
Perform technical library tasks within area of assignment; analyze and solve problems; interact effectively with library staff and the general public; use a variety of computer hardware and software to perform essential library duties; communicate effectively using correct verbal and written English skills; set priorities and carry out area of assignment with minimal supervision; make decisions in accordance with established policies; assist in the development of policies and procedures for assigned area; work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
Education and Experience: Three years experience performing increasingly responsible or varied technical library tasks; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Other Qualifications
Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:
Ability to exercise sound judgment and rational thinking under varied circumstances; ability to exert physical effort in sedentary to light work involving sitting, standing and moving from one area of the library to another; ability to see; ability to hear and communicate orally; sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as shelving, filing, data entry, use of computer and office equipment; may involve extensive VDT exposure. Requires the ability to climb ladders or step stools, bend or stoop to shelve books, push or pull book carts, move boxes of materials of considerable weight from one location to another.
Disaster Service Workers:
All Sutter County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to perform certain emergency services at the direction of the department and/or County.
License or Certificate:
This classification may require a valid California driver’s license.
