Job Summary:
The Toolmaker A/B will be responsible for the fabrication, maintenance, repair, and modification of tools, dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures used in manufacturing processes.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assures compliance to all required industry standards and government requirements as stated in the Ideal-Tridon Quality Manual, Quality Management System, process documentation, and all Company Human Resources, Health, Safety, and Environmental guidelines to ensure customer requirements are met.
Responsibility and authority to shut down machine operation when quality, safety, or environmental issues arise. The operator will notify the supervisor, lead, or other appropriate manager.
When operating a forklift, has the responsibility and authority to remove the equipment from service following EHS-20-0042. Notification will be made to the Maintenance Department.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Fabricates, maintains, repairs, and modifies various types of tooling, including molds, dies, jigs, and fixtures, to support production needs.
Sets up and operates manual and CNC machine tools, such as lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines, to perform machining operations on tooling components.
Conducts precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy and adherence to specifications.
Performs preventive maintenance tasks on tooling to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Troubleshoots and diagnoses issues with tooling and implements corrective actions to resolve problems and minimize downtime.
Maintains accurate documentation of tooling maintenance, repair, and modification activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Proficiency in the fabrication, maintenance, and repair of various types of tooling, including molds, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
Experience in setting up and operating manual and CNC machine tools, such as lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines.
Precision measurement skills and ability to use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues with tooling.
Effective communication skills.
Attention to detail and ability to work with high precision and accuracy.
Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet production schedules.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents and specifications.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent education and experience required.
Three years of experience in toolmaking, including fabrication, maintenance, and repair of tooling components required.
Well-rounded experience in metal stamping, training in the machine shop, and Toolroom practices (functions usually acquired through a formal Toolmaker apprenticeship or a minimum of 4 to 6 years equivalent Toolroom training or on-the-job experience in a metal stamping Toolroom environment with a formal machine shop or previous machine tool education.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
