Electronic Design Engineer IC -Principal

As part of a fast-moving team, the principal design engineer will develop broadband, high-efficiency power amplifiers. Working in our design center located in Mesa, AZ, the candidate must be able to architect, design, layout, measure and productize GaN-based power amplifiers for mMIMO 5G/6G applications.

Responsibilities:

  •  Develop next-generation multistage amplifiers for wireless communication systems - from concept through to productization.
  • Architect, schematic design, layout, hands-on laboratory characterization of high efficiency, linear broadband amplifiers.
  • Manage project, support customers, work with applications, product and test engineers.

Job Qualifications & Responsibilities:

  •  Proven track record of multistage mMIMO product design and innovation for 5G communication systems.
  • In-depth experience with GaN on SiC or LDMOS technologies for RF applications greater than 5W.
  • Development of innovative power amplifier solutions for single and multiband high efficiency Doherty applications.
  • Experience with design, tapeout and verification of integrated passive devices.
  • Experience with EM modelling tools is required (ADS, HFSS, Sonnet, etc.).
  • Experience automating/scripting common design tasks to improve development efficiency (AEL, Python, Matlab, etc.)
  • Be responsible for the design, drafting, testing, and releasing of new power amplifier products.
  • Design RF amplifier evaluation boards and production test fixtures.
  • Device testing and characterization including s-parameters, large signal, load-pull, stability over temperature and VSWR, as well as market specific measurements on a per-product basis. Be responsible for status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing test data.
  • Works closely with cross functional teams including product management, marketing, systems and algorithms teams, product engineering, operations, reliability, quality, test engineering, and procurement.
  • Follow a formal stage-gate new product introduction process.
  • Team leadership experience is an advantage.
  • Ability to characterize products hands on in the lab.
  • Ability to support a product through the entire product development and release cycle.
  • Ability to investigate power amplifier technical challenges, clearly articulate limitations and propose solutions or mitigating strategies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the specific ability to speak to various technical and management levels.
  • Willingness to travel when required.
  • Mentor junior RF design engineers.
  • M.S. plus 8 years of RF design experience.
  • Ph.D. plus 6 years of RF design experience.
