JOB SUMMARY
Registered Nurse 1 give professional nursing care and treatment in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility. Registered Nurses evaluate health needs of juveniles and refer, as indicated by policy and procedure, to the appropriate health provider, demonstrate knowledge in advanced first aid and emergency care, and have knowledge in all policies and procedures pertaining to Medical and Psychiatric treatment of juveniles detained in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility. Registered Nurses monitor and maintain the medical and mental health treatment of juveniles, maintain supplies and equipment and ensure the juveniles are in a clean and safe environment and perform other related duties as assigned. General assignments are received from Charge Nurse or Nursing Administrator. Registered Nurses may supervise the work of Licensed Practical Nurses or other auxiliary nursing service personnel.
Required Tasks
- Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
- Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
- Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
- Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
- Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
- Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
- Assist with the orientation and training of new hires as requested by leadership.
- Direct or supervise less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel or supervise a particular unit.
- Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments.
- Prepare rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, or supplies and ensure that stock of supplies is maintained.
- Refer patients to specialized health resources or community agencies furnishing assistance.
- Consult with institutions or associations regarding issues or concerns relevant to the practice and profession of nursing.
- Complete other duties as assigned within scope of practice.
Education/Experience Requirements
- A graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Possess a current Registered Nurse license to practice in the State of Michigan.
- BLS/CPR Certification
- One year of full-time paid experience as a registered nurse within the past five (5) years in the following areas of medical/surgical, corrections, or behavioral health (preferred).
Special Conditions
- Candidate must be cleared to work in a childcaring institution by Child Welfare Licensing/Child Protective Services. Candidates that have lived outside of the State of Michigan must provide clearance from that State.
