About the Role:
The Decking Lead plays a critical role in overseeing the installation, maintenance, and quality assurance of decking systems within the durable goods manufacturing sector, specifically at Naval Station Norfolk, NOB. This position is responsible for leading a team of skilled technicians and craftsmen to ensure that all decking projects meet stringent safety, durability, and design standards. The Decking Lead will coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, and supply chain personnel to optimize workflow and resource allocation. A key outcome of this role is to deliver high-quality decking solutions that support naval operations and infrastructure longevity. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, adherence to regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of decking processes and materials.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in construction, carpentry, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in decking installation or a similar role within durable goods manufacturing or construction.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams in a hands-on work environment.
- Strong knowledge of decking materials, installation techniques, and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
- Experience working in a naval or military facility environment with knowledge of relevant regulations and standards.
- Certification in OSHA safety standards or equivalent safety training.
- Familiarity with project management software and inventory control systems.
- Demonstrated ability to implement process improvements and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise decking installation and repair teams to ensure timely and efficient project completion.
- Develop and implement work schedules, assign tasks, and monitor progress to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and quality control checks to ensure compliance with safety regulations and technical specifications.
- Collaborate with engineering and design teams to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and material requirements.
- Manage inventory of decking materials and tools, coordinating with procurement to maintain adequate supplies.
- Train and mentor team members on best practices, safety protocols, and new decking technologies.
- Identify and resolve technical issues or obstacles encountered during decking projects.
- Prepare detailed reports on project status, workforce performance, and material usage for senior management.
