Position Summary
Perform administrative and supervisory work involved in designing, developing, coordinating, implementing, evaluating, and revising the Gifted and Talented (GT), Honors, AP, Dual Credit, P-TECH and all CCMR programs. Provide leadership for the advanced academic instructional program while ensuring effective and efficient operation of curriculum and professional development in the areas of gifted and talented and the advanced academic program
Education/Certification
Master’s degree in education
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Administrative certificate preferred
Completion of 30-hour foundational GT training, GT endorsement preferred
Experience
Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience
Minimum of three years of leadership experience as a curriculum coordinator, lead counselor, or campus administrator
Prior successful experience with advanced learners
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students.
- Able to establish partnerships with post-secondary entities and business/community partners, benefiting the district's advanced academic and college, and career readiness programs.
- Experience and knowledge in current curriculum trends and instructional strategies for Gifted and Talented, Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and Dual Credit programs.
- Ability to disaggregate and utilize the data collected through assessments, summative, formative, screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring assessments to inform purposeful instruction.
- Demonstrate ability in implementing communication and collaboration between and among various areas of the organization to enhance service, program development, and customer satisfaction.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Coordinate all Gifted and Talented curriculum and instruction initiatives.
- Ensure that SISD Gifted and Talented programming aligns with state standards and ensures service plans are implemented at each campus.
- Coordinate AP, Honors, Dual Credit, and P-TECH programs to include entrance criteria and assessment, curriculum and instructional expectations, and evaluation.
- Direct and supervise the identification and assessment of advanced academic students and students participating in college and career readiness programs by ethnicity and socioeconomic background.
- Ensure that campus/department improvement plans are aligned with the needs of the campus/department and with District goals.
- Determine, plan, and secure the necessary time, resources, and materials to support the accomplishment of advanced academic goals.
- Coordinate and facilitate extended learning opportunities for gifted and advanced academic students to include competitive opportunities.
- Coordinate Advanced Placement syllabi submission and compliance.
- Assist campuses in resolving parent/student issues and concerns in a timely manner.
- Facilitate the planning, development, evaluation, revision, and maintenance of curriculum programs, guides, resources, and instructional materials to ensure college, career, and military readiness for all students to include GT, Honors, AP, and Dual Credit.
- Collaborate with the core curriculum coordinators, campus administration, counselors, and the Chief Instructional Officer regarding the implementation of GT, Honors, AP, and Dual Credit curriculum, instruction, assessments, and best practices for advanced academic and college and career readiness programs.
- Coordinate with the Chief Instructional Officer for training in advanced academics (GT/Honors/AP/Dual Credit) as well as coordinate the TTR application.
- Collaborate with campus and district staff to ensure proper assessments for all Advanced Academics programs and College, Career, and Military Readiness.
- Collaborate with campus and PEIMS staff to ensure data validity as it pertains to all advanced academics programs and College, Career, and Military Readiness.
- Monitor state reimbursements as per HB3 and disbursement of CCMR Outcome Bonus.
- Develop recruitment procedures to increase enrollment in Honors, AP, and Dual Credit.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure equity and access for all students in advanced academic courses to encourage students from all ethnic and economic subgroups to pursue advanced-level academics.
- Coordinate and conduct presentations to district stakeholders.
- Conduct regular walkthroughs to monitor instruction and provide support, and timely feedback regarding strengths and areas of need.
- Support classroom instruction through modeling lessons, mentoring new teachers, and offering support for advanced curriculum through professional development.
- Work with curriculum coordinators and campus administration to design and provide professional development focused on improving alignment and delivery of the written, taught, and tested curriculum to increase student success and close performance gaps.
- Work with teachers and campus administration to analyze student data, diagnose instructional needs, and identify research-based instructional strategies to close achievement gaps and ensure CCMR for students.
- Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Program Management
- Ensure the district is following the Texas Education Agency’s requirements for Advanced Academics, including curriculum, progress monitoring, teacher qualifications, staff professional development and mentoring, family engagement, and fiscal management.
- Submit all required data reports.
- Interview, select, and train new staff.
- Conduct program evaluations and needs assessments.
- Research grant funding opportunities, complete grant applications, and manage grant awards.
School/Community
- Ensure effective two-way communication between district staff, community agencies, families, and district personnel.
- Network with community agencies and district personnel to integrate and maximize the services available to ensure college, career, and military readiness for all students.
- Communicate and promote all Advanced Academics programs.
- Plan and conduct parent advisory meetings, parent training, information sessions, and family engagement events at the district level.
- Conduct conferences with parents, students, and staff.
