Typical Schedule: This is a full-time faculty position to begin July 2026.

 Purpose: The role of Assistant Professor of Politics is a full-time, tenure-track position in the Department of Humanities. Responsibilities include teaching twelve credit hours of undergraduate courses per semester. Faculty members share responsibility for enhancing the Catholic, Holy Cross learning experience for all students.

 Essential Job Duties:

  • All Holy Cross College administrators, faculty, and staff are called to assist students in their formation to be Christ-like students and thus must embrace and advance the Holy Cross mission of the College in all professional activities.
  • Teach a range of undergraduate Politics courses, including courses in American politics, political philosophy, international relations, and political economy.
  • Serve as Academic Director of Politics and Public Service by leading, developing and annually assessing the Politics program.
  • Advise majors in Politics and Public Service, as well as students on the Pre-Law Track.
  • Assist students in seeing the relevance of the Catholic intellectual tradition to the study and practice of politics.
  • Develop scholarship with the purpose of benefiting students directly or indirectly.
  • Participate in the life of the College by serving on administrative committees and attending important events, such as Welcome Weekend, Faculty-Staff Convocation, Constitution Day, Honors Convocation, Baccalaureate Mass, and Commencement.
  • Other responsibilities as may be assigned to meet the needs of the program, department, or college.

 Minimum Education, Skills, and Ability:

  • Ph.D. in Political Science, Government, or Politics.
  • Specialization in the American political and constitutional tradition preferred.
  • Previous college or university teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong appreciation of liberal arts education.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Positive work experience in a Catholic college environment preferred.
