We are seeking a Senior Research Associate to perform molecular biological experiments and animal studies. The position will provide technical support for laboratory- based cancer research with a heavy focus on breast cancer models in mice. Duties will include use with multiple mouse models, mouse colony maintenance (breeding, weaning, genotyping, use of Colony Management System), and assistance with general laboratory duties including ordering lab reagents and consumables, receiving shipments, and lab organization. Classification created to permit compensation to individuals performing research on Campus and in the Medical Center using University facilities without detailed supervision. Incumbents may guide the research of others and participate, to a limited degree, in classroom instruction.Job Description:
The Senior Research Associate in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology will perform molecular biological experiments and animal studies. The position will provide technical support for laboratory- based cancer research with a heavy focus on breast cancer models in mice. Duties will include use with multiple mouse models, mouse colony maintenance (breeding, weaning, genotyping, use of Colony Management System), and assistance with general laboratory duties.
Job Duties:
- Maintain mouse colony and husbandry (setting up genetic crosses, breeding, and weaning).
- Document and track meticulous animal inventory records.
- Conduct transgenic mice genotyping.
- Perform sterile technique in handling of immune-compromised mice IP/IV/Orthotopic injections into various types of mouse strains.
- Measure tumor growth using calipers to monitor experimental progress and assess treatment effects.
- Train personnel in basic mice handling techniques.
- Dissect euthanized animals and process tissues for histological or other analyses.
- Establish tumor implantation at orthotopic sites, including the mammary gland.
- Order lab reagents and consumables, receive shipments, and lab organization.
- Ensure laboratory compliance in all aspects of animal care, including maintaining and updating IACUC animal protocols.

Required Qualifications
Work Experience:
- Eight years of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
- Three years of experience in scientific or experimental research work.
- Experience working with animals in a research setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: PhD in one of the natural sciences or a related field.

SalaryCompensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
