How you’ll impact our mission:
The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hiring a full-time Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) who wants to make a difference for people and animals. In this role, you’ll hone skills working with both shelter and owned animals while working alongside our fun and committed team of veterinarians and support staff, along with a management team dedicated to supporting your growth and development. The CVT reports to the Assistant Shelter Operations Manager, Veterinary Support at our Kenosha Campus. Key accountabilities:
- Performing treatments, diagnostics, and nursing care for shelter and clinic patients:
- Venipuncture, radiographs, dental prophylaxis, laboratory diagnostics, and vaccinating and restraining animals in accordance with organizational protocols.
- Performing surgical procedures:
- Safely and efficiently anesthetizing and preparing patients for surgery, monitoring patients at all stages of anesthesia, and calculating drug dosages.
- Maintaining accurate patient records and cleaning and maintaining equipment, surgical quarters, and animal areas as needed
- Using a welcoming, supportive, and non-judgmental approach with all clients, co-workers, and volunteers.
- Assisting and preforming euthanasia services for shelter and owned animals at a veterinarian's discretion
- Providing vaccines during vaccine clinics to owned public animals.
Qualifications:
- Veterinary Technician Certification required
- Experience in a veterinary clinic and/or animal shelter preferred
- Able to partner with clients, staff, and volunteers from a diverse background

- Ability to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
- Able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Hiring range: $22 - $25

About us:
The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. It was founded in 1879 and operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Door, Brown, and Kenosha Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services, youth programs, low-cost veterinary resources, retail stores, volunteer programs, dog training classes, and much more. The Milwaukee shelter also houses the state’s busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. WHS is an independent nonprofit and receives no general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella group.
