Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy
equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency
situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require
frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
- Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
- Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers.
- Keeps equipment mileage and service records and schedules equipment repairs.
- Maintains and calibrates equipment.
- Performs tests and inspection duties.
- Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
- Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: No experience required (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferably has knowledge of material testing.
Competencies:
- Giving attention to detail and reviewing information to identify any errors and problems; ensuring consistency and
clarity of information. - Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
- Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others.
- Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Subject to noise.
- Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals.
- Subject to atmospheric conditions-fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation.
- Subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
- Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device.
- Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
- Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling.
- Stooping-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist. PA08: Standing-prolonged periods of time.
- Fingering-picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand.
- Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
- Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels;receive information by oral communication.
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading.
- Visual Acuity-operate machines, such as drill presses, power saws, and mills.
- Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
