Summary
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for executing complex accounting tasks with precision and expertise, including detailed general ledger research and reconciliation of challenging accounts. This role also entails the review and approval of journal entries. The Specialist serves as a technical resource for Accounting Representatives and liaises with Accounting Team Leads for advanced issues and GL review.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Perform advanced accounting tasks such as complex general ledger research and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Address initial challenges in accounting processes, escalating complex or unresolved issues to Accounting Team Leads.
- Provide technical support to Accounting Representatives, facilitating knowledge sharing for specialized accounting tasks.
- Engage in special accounting projects, applying specialized skills to support project goals.
- Contribute to the optimization of accounting processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency and accuracy improvements.
- Prepare detailed general ledger entries and documentation for review by Accounting Team Leads.

Reports To: Accounting Assistant Manager
Contacts: Collaborative interactions with Accounting Team Leads, Accounting Representatives, and other departments.
Requirements
EDUCATION
- Associate Degree
- Commensurate work experience will be accepted in lieu of education
EXPERIENCE
- 3 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience.
- Requires firsthand knowledge and proficiency in spreadsheet software (Excel).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Position involves wrist/hand manipulation, restriction to workstation for extended periods of time.
- May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for frequent viewing of computer monitor and review of documents.
- Communication abilities required by this job includes clarity in speech and hearing for effective staff/member interaction.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Most important to this position are excellent communication verbal and written, accuracy, initiative, follow through, reliability and an initiative-taker.
- To perform this position, the incumbent must have knowledge of general accounting/booking principles and Excel skills.
EQUIPMENT SKILLS
- Personal computer with windows environment, scanner, calculator, copy machine.
