The licensed optometrist provides complete high quality optometric/vision care services. These services may include examination, diagnosis, treatment and management of disorders of the visual system, eye diseases and injuries. They may also prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses as needed
Responsibilities
- Provides and assures that patients receive appropriate routine eye exams and urgent care, as well as other vision care that is appropriate in the care setting
- Provides additional specialized testing and therapy, such as vision therapy or low-vision rehabilitation as needed
- Assures that referrals are made in a timely manner to specialists or other providers when medically necessary
- Assures that the documentation of care as represented in the medical records meets established standards of quality
- Acts as a day-to-day resource to Ophthalmology and other department regarding vision care issues.
- Assists in responding to patient concerns about care issues and works to solve problems and improve patient care
- Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May supervise clinical staff.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required:
- Education Required: Graduate of an accredited college or university in the school of Optometry required.
Education and/or Experience Preferred:
- Experience Preferred: Previous experience working in pediatrics preferred.
- Previous experience in customer service preferred.
License and/or Certification Required:
- Current and valid state license as an Optometrist required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Decision-making skills: Ability to evaluate the results of a variety of diagnostic tests and decide on the best course of treatment for a patient.
- Interpersonal skills: Ability to help their patients feel at ease due to the amount of time spent examining patients.
- Speaking Skills: Ability to clearly explain eyecare instructions to patients in addition to answering their questions.
- Adhere to professional standards of conduct, ethical standards and CCMC Code of Conduct.
