Role Overview
The Accounting Manager will lead financial tracking and reporting for Noisy Creek and its properties, including the Portland Mercury, The Stranger, and the Chicago Reader. This position oversees bookkeeping, prepares financial documents, and files stature and local taxes, with a primary focus on maintaining accurate, efficient, and compliant accounting practices within QuickBooks Online. The role requires both independent initiative and collaborative skills, as the Accounting Manager will work closely with the Comptroller, CFO, and AR/AP Manager. Since the team operates across three states, success in this role depends on balancing self-motivation with strong teamwork in a small, high-impact environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage bookkeeping functions across multiple entities, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports at corporate and departmental levels
- Generate profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and company-wide cash flow reports
- Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes
- Manage and file local and state taxes in Washington, Oregon, and Illinois
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in accounting, with a strong background in financial reporting
- Excellent knowledge of GAAP accounting principles, standards and regulations
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online
- Background in both for-profit and non-profit accounting
- Demonstrated ability to deliver timely and accurate financial reports
- Experience preparing financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and self-motivation
- Comfortable working in both in-office and remote environments
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a geographically dispersed team

Additional Information:
This is a full-time position with a hybrid work schedule (both in-office and remote). Typical work hours are Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM
