SUMMARY: 

Primarily responsible for the maintenance of the company grounds and cleaning of the parking facility.  Provide safe entry and egress of all facilities, in all weather conditions, maintenance or enhancement of facility landscape to protect or improve.  As lead worker, oversees the work of an assistant ground technician.  Contacts include other Administrative Services staff, employees, customers, general public, and occasional contact with outside vendors and labs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

•    Performs minor upkeep of exterior landscaping as required by Supervisor. Performs weeding, fertilization, prunes, edging, trimming as necessary.
•    Maintains the lawn by cutting, trimming, and edging.
•    Maintains grounds keeping equipment and tools.  Sharpens, cleans, lubricates, and minor repairs equipment and tools.  Replaces batteries, lights, and filters.  Arranges for winterizes of exterior irrigation system.  Operates automated irrigation and performs minor repairs.  Works with contracted exterminators.
•    Updates grounds maintenance logs, completes work requests, orders supplies, inventories plants and chemicals, and maintains material safety data sheets. 
•    Prepares periodic reports.
•    Recommends the purchase of new and replacement equipment.
•    Trains and mentors the Grounds technician I.  Prioritizes, assigns, and reviews his or her work.
•    Grounds Technician duties that include cleaning windows, out fixtures, ledges, and rock beds.   
•    Cleaning the parking facility
•    Maintains interior plants.
•    Cleans and maintain work areas.
•    Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, and areas where required.
•    Assist the department as needed with related responsibilities.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

A.    EDUCATION REQUIRED: 
High school diploma or G.E.D.  One year of relevant course work (minimum 30 credit hours) in horticulture, landscape architecture, or related field. A combination of education and experience will be accepted in lieu of relevant course work.  A pesticide applicator’s license is required.

B.    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 
Minimum of three years experience in a landscape maintenance industry with exposure to plant watering, nutrition, lighting, and soil requirements.

C.    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED: 
•    Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work.
•    Basic knowledge of computers and word processing software.
•    Excellent communication skills.
•    Knowledge of exterior landscape plants.
•    Knowledge of proper pruning practices for shrubs and trees. 
•    Ability to use hand tools and power equipment.
•    Basic knowledge of spreadsheet software.
•    Ability to perform mathematical computations.
•    Ability to type alpha/numeric data accurately.
•    Knowledge of the proper use of safety equipment in the performance of job duties. 
•    Ability to move or lift heavy objects weighing up to 70 lbs. unassisted.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
There are a variety of working hazards that require the use of safety practices and equipment.  The work has exposure to hazardous chemical pesticides.  Work is performed out of doors.  Requires the moving of heavy snow.  This work may be considered physically demanding.  Ability to move or lift heavy objects weighing up to 70 Lbs. required to bend, squat, kneel and climb a ladder.
