About the Department

Pay Grade: Coordinator 10

This position is responsible for the planning and coordination of EMS courses (CE/CU), including American Heart Association (AHA) and National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) courses, and is also responsible for providing supervision and guidance to EMS instructional faculty and oversight of the specialty course training sites. This position is also responsible for providing effective instruction for EMS courses (CE/CU), AHA, and NAEMT and assisting the Department Head as a first-line manager of personnel within the EMS Department.

Position Duties

* Plans, coordinates, and designs a schedule of instruction for EMS CE, AHA, and NAEMT courses to maintain currency and rigor and to fully implement and evaluate student learning outcomes and overall program outcomes while providing supervision and guidance to faculty 

* Submits new EMS courses and revises existing courses to be delivered in traditional, online, and hybrid formats utilizing the WTCC Course Copy system for approval 

* Collaborates with internal and external auditors to ensure program compliance with all NCCCS, NCOEMS, and COAEMSP rules and regulations.  

* Maintains ongoing communications with each affiliating agency to discuss, arrange, and improve EMS CE, AHA, and NAEMT courses, as prescribed by accreditation standards 

* Compiles and analyzes data in preparation for accreditation and assessment initiatives Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner 

Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance and grades in a timely manner  

Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment

Assists with hiring, evaluation, performance management, (class visits) and professional development of adjunct faculty  

Attends departmental, divisional, and support area meetings as required 

Recommends certified and qualified instructors for delivery of EMS CE, AHA, and NAEMT courses  

Collaborates with WTCC CE Instructional Technologist to ensure courses comply with WTCC CE Registrar guidelines including UDL and ADA requirements  

Schedules traditional classes at locations, times and formats that meets NCOEMS guidelines  

Participates in the marketing new programs, recruiting students, and instructors    

Audits classes, delivers, and receives course materials from instructors and proctors

Stays abreast of current EMS, AHA, and NAEMT teaching methods and technology in the classroom environment  

Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching  

Attends professional development opportunities when possible  

Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate 

Maintains current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development                        

Actively participates in departmental meetings; assists with planning  Participates in college activities and committees as needed, including graduation   

Researches and recommends purchase of equipment, evaluates, and selects software, audio and video materials and other technologies to supplement instruction  

Promotes continuous improvement by completing an annual applied benchmark project on an individual or a group basis

Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills  

Minimum Requirements:   

Associate Degree 

Two years of teaching in a post-secondary educational environment

North Carolina Paramedic certification or National Registry Paramedic with eligibility for reciprocity to obtain a North Carolina Paramedic credential  North Carolina EMT-Paramedic Level-II Instructor Certification or equivalent

Preferences:   

Bachelor's Degree  Five plus years teaching in a post-secondary educational environment  Experience in a supervisory or leadership role at the Paramedic level
