POSITION TITLE:    Flex Substitute Teacher (formally building sub)

 

REPORTS TO:          Building Principal

 

Purpose Statement:  To develop in each student skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to good communication; to develop appreciation of good literature of all types; to motivate pupils to read for information and recreation; to develop critical thinking skills; to nurture special talents of each student. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  1. Must have Iowa teaching certification of subject area being taught or substitute authorization with the BOEE.
  2. Successful teaching experience preferred
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

           

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Teaches skills to pupils, utilizing courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Instructs pupils in basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  3. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available instruction time for instruction.
  4. Maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  5. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems as required.
  6. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers as required.
  7. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  8. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during assigned working day.
  9. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  10. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities as required.
  11. Organizes and effectively communicates appropriate information to members of special education staffing teams.
  12. Has the ability, desire, understanding and patience to teach reluctant learners and to effectively communicate with their parents.
