Position Summary:
The Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI®) provides expert nursing care in the field of infusion therapy. This includes the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients receiving IV therapies. The CRNI® upholds best practices, maintains compliance with regulatory standards, and promotes patient safety and comfort throughout the infusion process.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer intravenous (IV) medications, fluids, blood products, and parenteral nutrition.
- Insert, maintain, and monitor various vascular access devices (e.g., peripheral IVs, PICCs, midlines, central lines).
- Assess patients’ vascular access needs and collaborate on the selection of appropriate devices.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and complications related to infusion therapy.
- Educate patients and caregivers on infusion therapy procedures and home care, if applicable.
- Maintain accurate documentation and charting in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Comply with infection control standards, safety protocols, and institutional policies.
- Serve as a resource for other nurses and interdisciplinary team members on infusion related issues.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain CRNI® certification.
Requirements
Education, Prior Work Experience, Special Skill and Knowledge Requirements:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- CRNI® certification by the Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation (INCC) required.
- Minimum of [2+] years of recent experience in infusion therapy or vascular access preferred.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and IV insertion skills.
- Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI)
- Experience with EMR systems and documentation standards.
- Excellent patient communication and teaching abilities.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with a wide range of infusion therapies (e.g., antibiotics, chemotherapy, biologics).
