PURPOSE
Patrol and supervise campus activities to assure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors at designated locations during assigned business, school, and co-curricular events hours; act as a law-related counselor, and a law-related educator. Investigate incidents and assure student, staff and visitor compliance with local and Indiana laws, school and district rules, and policies and procedures. Perform Variety of receptionist and general clerical duties including answer phones and greet and assist visitors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school, two years law enforcement, security or closely related experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer.
- Must possess knowledge of the methods, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, materials and equipment used in assigned ?eld.
- Must pass all required training.
- The Security Officer is required to have functional knowledge of investigations, a basic understanding of evidence collection and preliminary investigations and knowledge regarding mediation and conflict resolution, basic crime prevention and problem solving.
- Must be familiar with community agencies which o?er assistance to youths and their families such as mental health providers, youth service centers, and juvenile probation, and make referrals when appropriate.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualification:
- May be authorized to carry a firearm if approved by the School Board and in accordance with applicable policies and legal requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Abiding by school board policies and applicable law, patrol and supervise campus, assuring students, staff and visitors are safe, orderly, secure and within supervised areas; monitor hallways, walkways, restrooms, parking lots, grounds, classrooms and adjacent areas; assure safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and private and school property, buildings and grounds.
- Enforce and assure compliance with local, state and federal laws, and District rules, policies and regulations; respond to complaints from students, staff and visitors; investigate, deter, identify and report unusual, suspicious or criminal activities; prevent or break up conflicts and incidents of aggression.
- Confer and collaborate with administrators, faculty and staff concerning inappropriate behavior, security, safety and enforcement activities; interview students, staff and visitors concerning incidents; report incidents to appropriate staff or administrator and inform the Director of Security.
- Escort and direct authorized visitors to desired destinations; provide general information and assistance; assure students, staff and visitors on campus are authorized visitors; escort unauthorized visitors off campus; lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate.
- Monitor campus for illegal activity; investigate and report instances of graffiti and vandalism; search for and confiscate illegal possessions as directed; provide information to, confer with and assist law enforcement agencies concerning legal matters involving students, staff and visitors; arrange for, assist with, file and submit police reports as required.
- Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate personnel; respond to emergency situations as needed; assist with the implementation of emergency preparedness plans as directed.
- Maintain routine records related to incidents and daily activities; prepare and process various forms.
- Greet and assist visitors; issue/collect badges, maintain sign-in logs, and direct visitors to the appropriate office or staff.
- Receive, sign for, and coordinate delivery of packages and mail; report suspicious deliveries promptly.
- Maintain records, logs, and reports; manage filing systems and prepare routine documents.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments, and conference room use.
- Assist with emergency procedures and preparedness plans as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support office operations.
DRESS AND EQUIPMENT:
All School Security Officers will wear the assigned uniform.

- Mobility: Freedom to sit or walk at will throughout the work environment.
- Strength and Stamina: Capability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to twenty-five (25) pounds or more.
- Outdoor Work: Tolerance of work outside in various weather conditions.
