Job Summary
The Director of Population Health and Strategic Communications is a key member of Heywood Healthcare’s Development Team, committed to advancing the organization’s vision to improve the health of our diverse communities. This role involves collecting and analyzing community health and hospital data, collaborating with senior leaders and the CEO on strategic priorities, and leading marketing and communication initiatives aligned with organizational and community goals. The Director partners closely with the CEO to craft impactful messaging that reflects Heywood’s mission, vision, and values, and is responsible for the CEO level communications.
Combining expertise in epidemiology, research, and public health policy with strategic communication skills, the Director transforms health data and emerging trends into actionable insights that inform executive decisions and public messaging.

Epidemiology and Research
- Collect, analyze, and interpret community health data and population-level epidemiological information to identify trends, disparities, and priority health issues within Heywood Healthcare’s service area
- Collaborates with internal and external partners to monitor emerging public health trends; analyzes hospital data to identify local impacts and supports data-informed communication and strategy development
- Translate complex epidemiological findings and public health research into actionable recommendations for organizational leaders and clear, accessible messaging for internal and external audiences.
- Support grant writing and funding proposals by providing data-driven evidence and epidemiological analysis that aligns with community health priorities
- Develop and maintain epidemiological dashboards and reports to track key health indicators, service utilization, and outcomes
- Evaluate public health programs’ effectiveness, using epidemiological methods to assess impact and inform continuous improvement.
Management & Communications - Strategic Planning & Leadership
- In collaboration with the director of resource development, makes strategic recommendations to the CEO after gathering and analyzing community needs and public health data
- Collaborates closely with the director of resource development, the senior team, and the CEO to identify strategic regional public health and organizational priorities
- Collaborates with senior leadership to develop and refine an integrated marketing and communications strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Provides thought leadership on community needs, reputation management, and market differentiation.
- Evaluates marketing and communication performance metrics and uses data to optimize future marketing campaigns.
Marketing, Media, Public Relations and Analytics
- Serves as the lead editor for CEO-level communications and organizational announcements.
- Writes, selects, edits, and compiles material and stories for the CEO Monthly updates as needed.
- Manages community newsletter and serves as editor.
- Provide support for Crisis Communications needs and strategic Administration initiatives
- Provide written communication that gets sent out internally, to external partners, elected officials, and media. Work closely with the CEO, Senior Leadership, and Director of Resource Development to develop and execute a communication plan
- Develops and contributes to public relations and marketing content, including communication and marketing plans, press releases, speeches, speaking points, articles, advertising, and presentations in coordination with leadership and the Director of Resource Development to ensure aligned messaging.
- Develop and manage a publication document with purchase order numbers.
- Develops, plans, and manages Heywood Healthcare's online presence through its website and social media platforms
- Develop and manage a social media calendar that aligns with health messaging and strategic service lines
- Implements tools to enhance audience segmentation, personalization, and targeting in digital campaigns.
- Oversees digital strategy including SEO, email marketing, paid ads, and content marketing related to health messaging and Heywood Healthcare service lines
- Ensures brand consistency in tone, messaging, and visual identity across all platforms.
- Assist to Develop and execute marketing and public relations campaigns, branding initiatives and public relations strategy based on hospital strategic plan & goals. This is achieved both internally and in conjunction with outside agencies using methods which include media buying, professional photographic and video production needs.
- Tracks and reports key performance indicators for website traffic, social media engagement, and campaign ROI.
- Serves as a strategic liaison between the marketing department and other functional areas including Development, Philanthropy, and Clinical departments to ensure alignment, mutual support, and coordinated patient engagement efforts.

Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Business, or a related field is required.
- Master's Degree preferred
Minimum Work Experience
An ideal candidate has experience with health messaging, statistics, and business analysis.
