Job Summary

THE POSITION: Under the general direction of the Transportation Supervisor, assists the Bus Driver in the transportation of special education students needing special attention and care on buses. Recognize and meet the special needs of the children being transported; and performs related duties as required or assigned. Positions in this class are distinguished from other Student Transportation Assistant positions by assignment to perform special physical health procedures for students; maintain health records and files; and do related work as required, under the direction of the credentialed school nurse.

THE EXAMINATION: Candidates may be assessed on their understanding of child behavior, their ability to collaborate with children and staff, and their skills in handling emergency situations. The examination may also cover the following areas: effectively supporting students with special needs, identifying and resolving problems, following both written and verbal instructions, and demonstrating flexibility, patience, sound judgment, and sensitivity in various situations. Passing a Specialized Health Training course provided by the district nurse is required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Requirements / Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination equivalent to: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) AND paid or volunteer experience working with children, and/or coursework in child psychology or similar subject matter areas. Courses in health services are desirable. **Must be able to work a split-shift position -- approximate hours: 6:30-8:30 am and 1:00-3:30 pm.** LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A valid First-aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or its equivalent, or completion of the Westminster School District's basic first-aid training program. CPR certification. Certifications will be updated and maintained. Successfully complete district basic training within the first six months of employment.
