Job Summary:

The Senior Technical Scientist/Engineer, Metals Analysis and Support is responsible for the development, validation and application of elemental analyses techniques to support Arconic plant operations and advance research within the Arconic Technology Center (ATC). This role will also serve as a subject matter expert in spectrometry and technical resource to Arconic plant laboratories on quantometer installation, operation and maintenance.   

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:
  • Apply elemental analyses techniques & schemes for R&D and operations support. Key activities include sample preparation, instrument calibration, data collection, data analysis and result reporting.
  • Develop, track and report relevant metrics for monitoring data quality and instrument performance.
  • Manage Arconic metal check program by ensuring that the materials submitted by Arconic plants are analyzed and reported in a timely manner. 
  • Partner with experienced technical experts to support quantometers across Arconic plants, troubleshoot instrument issues, and train plant laboratory personnel. 
  • Operate safely in the laboratory with high standards. Maintain equipment and supporting documents, and actively work to streamline existing laboratory workflows.
  • Develop new methods, scout new technologies, stay current with manufacturer hardware & software updates, attend trainings, review and publish technical reports. 
  • Develop and capture new intellectual property in the form of trade secrets and/or patents. 
  • Support the advancement of Arconic Laboratory Network goals.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

You have: (required) 
  • PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science/ Engineering discipline, or related discipline
  • Knowledge and hands-on expertise in elemental analysis techniques such as ICP-MS/OES, AAS, AES. 
  • Experience utilizing classical methods such as titration and gravimetry. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of core principles of measurement science and technical project management with record of scientific publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience performing elemental analysis in an academic or industrial laboratory environment. 
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Authorizations from the relevant government agency may be required to meet export control compliance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Familiarity with spectroscopy, microscopy and microanalyses techniques
  • Proficiency with statistical data analysis and visualization platforms such as Excel, Minitab, Matlab, Power BI, etc.
  • Strong technical acumen with aptitude for continuous learning and problem solving. 
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple requests.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with problem-solving mindset.
  • Strong collaboration skills and comfortable working in a team environment
  • Self-starter with ability to execute on technical projects with minimal supervisory authority
