Electric Transmission Planning Supervisor
This job is eligible for relocation assistance to the Colorado Springs area.
Our Electric Transmission Planning team is leading the energy transition for our community and working with other utilities, advocacy groups, and regulators to help shape the energy future in the Pikes Peak region. We are undertaking the largest infrastructure expansion in our electric service history, expanding into regional markets, and integrating utility and customer-owned renewables.
Our team is seeking a people-oriented and results-driven Electric Transmission Planning Supervisor to lead a team of engineers in the development and execution of transmission system planning, operations support activities, and integration in the Southwest Power Pool Regional Transmission Organization (RTO). This role is critical in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and strategic growth of our transmission network. The successful candidate will guide the development of long-term transmission plans that support regional reliability and market efficiency, while also facilitating the interconnection and integration of new generation resources, including renewables, storage, and emerging technologies. This includes overseeing power flow and stability studies, evaluating system impacts, and supporting generator interconnection requests through our division's planning and study frameworks.
In addition to leading a team of transmission planning engineers to ensure reliable and efficient grid operations, you will be:
- Managing power flow, stability, and contingency analyses to support system reliability and expansion
- Developing long-term transmission plans, including integration of new generation and emerging technologies
- Supporting outage coordination and daily operational planning
- Collaborating with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders
- Reviewing and approving technical studies, reports, and planning documentation
- Overseeing interconnection studies and regional planning efforts (e.g., NERC, FERC, RTO)
- Ensuring compliance with applicable standards, codes, and regulations
- Proposing new project timelines, budgets, and scope, and ensuring continuity throughout the project lifecycle
- Promoting continuous improvement and professional development within the team
Who You Are
- Demonstrated technical experience with and knowledge of power systems engineering and transmission planning
- Desire and ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of engineers while managing complex technical studies and regulatory requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively in representing our organization in external forums and coordinating across departments
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is required; Master's Degree is valued
- Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) License is valued
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or small amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
