Job Description

Job Summary

The Student Life Department is a student facing department therefore the Specialist will be student focused in all they do. The Student Life Events and Activities Specialist work with the SL team to plan, coordinate, and execute the Student Life activities and events across campus. While actively helping in the different areas of the Student Life ministry they will focus on working with the Student Life Internship teams to plan major events during the semester, coordinate coffee music nights, and work on special projects as assigned each semester.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, trains, and supports the assigned SLI team members to plan and execute extracurricular Student Life events that enhance all students� social experience, including but not limited to Coke Breaks and Coffee Music Nights.
  • Help team recruit students to be part of their Ministry Opportunities.
  • Coordinates events with Student Services departments across campus and serves as the direct liaison for event setups and teardowns with the Office of Events Management.
  • Provide daily oversight of the Naylor Student Center cleanliness, operation of TVs, the game room, and other areas of student usage
  • Be involved in a Student Life organized ministry opportunity a week.
  • Prayerfully foster and lead a discipleship group or 1-1 while on staff.
  • Serve as a visible and positive leader who fosters a healthy student culture on campus and helps students engage with the broader community.
  • Assist the Director to plan the Student Life Event Calendar, including but not limited to SLI events, Student Life events, and events Student Life is asked to help with
  • Lead the administrative work that pertains to all Student Life related event planning, including managing the SL event budget and reimbursement processing, maintaining accurate SL inventory supply orders, and creating up-to-date event report files.
  • Provide general administrative support such as answering phone calls, writing and responding to emails, arranging meetings, managing calendars, filing and organizing office materials, ordering new supplies, etc.

Specific Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor�s degree in business administration, communications, education, or related field is required (completed or in process); the position requires to be a student at SWBTS.
  • Prior ministry experience or entry-level ministry position in church preferred.
  • Excellent leadership and volunteer coordination skills required.
  • Strong organizational, event planning, and coordination skills, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to clearly and simply articulate the value propositions of SWBTS, its degree programs, and the specific requirements for completing the application process.
  • Exemplary social skills with an ability to be a part of and contribute to a collaborative team and ensure considerate interactions with all students and guests.
  • Strong work ethic and initiative; ability to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates creativity, vision, and honesty in all aspects of work and collaboration.
  • Evening and weekend work is required during large-scale events and peak Admission seasons.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Office Environment - May be required to reach above shoulder level for organizational tasks (e.g., retrieving files from upper shelves), bend, stoop, or reach to access lower or upper shelves.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and move about to the office to interact with other staff members.
  • Ability to use a computer and near-visual acuity in reading written documents and statistical data.
  • Exchanges information by telephone, computer, in writing and in person.
  • Ability to traverse campus for meetings and talk to groups while doing so.
  • Occasionally required to crouch, balance, walk, climb ladders, and use hands to handle or feel
  • Moderate Lifting - Occasionally transports 20-35lbs of parts and equipment across short distances by various means (e.g., carrying by hand, cart, golf cart) to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to withstand the heat and cold of the north Texas climate.
  • Weekend hours and travel are required.
