About the Department

Provide referrals to community partners, mental health support, and shelter opportunities for those individuals identified by Manatee County Sheriff’s Office personnel to be at risk relating to mental health and homelessness.

Position Duties

  • Ability to accurately enter and/or retrieve information from various computer systems and/or programs in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly to emergency situations, make effective decisions when in stressful situations and circumstances.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and problem solve in a multi-task environment.
  • Ability to independently meet stringent time frames outlined by agency policy, Administrative Code and Florida Statutes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with families, community resources, local and state law enforcement, other agencies, supervisors, and peers.
  • Knowledge of interviewing skills, principles, practices, and techniques of investigative efforts to ensure quality evidence gathering is accomplished.
  • Skill in the use of computers, two-way radio communications, and various other equipment used to perform daily functions of position.
  • Skill in analyzing and projecting consequences of proposed actions and implementing recommendations in support of goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • TASKS AND POLICIES:

    • Coordinate and manage the community referral received.         
    • Serve as an integral member of the County’s Homeless Outreach Team and other community partners to assist in navigating individuals from homelessness. 
    • The essential functions include but are not limited to assessment/diagnostic skills, capacity to form relationships with members and maintain therapeutic alliance, assisting members in accomplishing their treatment plan goals and objectives, ability to provide a variety of treatment modalities: individual, group, family, case management, and crisis intervention. 
    • Coordinate and implement new programs, prepare case record documentation, monthly statistics, and other information as needed.
    •  Actively participate in staff and board committee meetings, develop a plan with each member, facilitate collaborative services needed and provide intervention counseling when necessary. 
    • Provide in-home and/or on the street consultation and crisis intervention with members, have an excellent grasp of theory and application as it relates particularly to homelessness issues and economic challenges. 
    • Must be able and willing to partner with law enforcement officers and walk and interact with homeless members of the community. 
    • Must be comfortable interacting with individuals in their home setting who need assistance navigating resources. 
    • Comfortable working with individuals in a mental health crisis and have the ability to remain calm.  

  • POLICY

    • Arrives on time for work, limits breaks, and lunches to the allotted time, and leaves on time.  
    • Uses leave in accordance with General Orders; communicates and cooperates with management in providing proper notice of leave; patterns and amounts of leave usage (not including legitimate, properly scheduled and approved leave and protected leave).
    • Volume of work accomplished is consistent with position requirements and produced within quality tolerance standards.
    • Works with other team members to achieve group goals by contributing ideas in group settings, accepting ideas contributed by others, operating within team rules, participating in team meetings, working with team members to improve job knowledge and skills, putting team goals over personal goals, and supporting team leaders once decisions are made.
    • Follows standard office procedures, safety policies and procedures and agency General Orders.
    • Maintains good interpersonal relations (the way the employee responds emotionally and verbally) with the public, other employees, and supervisors. This policy also relates to the image of the employee projects and includes cleanliness and personal grooming.
    • Operates and cares for equipment, tools, and vehicles according to prescribed standards and schedules.

Other Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, behavioral sciences, or related field. 
  • 1 year of work experience in case management or crisis intervention experience in a community or social service setting (non-clinical) 
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • 35 WPM typing required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Valid Florida driver license.
  • Must pass MCSO 8-hour Driver Improvement Course.
