Description

ELL Assistant Teacher

DC Bilingual is recruiting an ELL (English Language Learner) Assistant Teacher to support the implementation of our multilingual learner program. The ELL Assistant Teacher will work closely with the ELL team and classroom teachers to provide instructional and assessment support for English learners across grade levels. This position includes supporting language testing, assisting with instruction, and helping to meet the varied needs of our multilingual students.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Abide by the first and second strands of the DC Bilingual Leading and Learning Framework (Professional Expectations and LEAD).
  • Support the administration and logistics of English language proficiency assessments, including ACCESS testing and Pre-IPT Oral testing.
  • Provide instructional support to ELL students across multiple grade levels, in both push-in and pull-out settings.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and ELL teachers to help deliver appropriate language supports and small group instruction.
  • Assist with organizing and preparing instructional materials and resources for multilingual learners.
  • Support students with varying levels of English proficiency by adapting classroom tasks and instructions.
  • Help track student progress and maintain organized assessment data and documentation.
  • Occasionally support other teachers and classroom staff with instructional or logistical needs.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with students, staff, and families to support student success and well-being.
  • Participate in school-wide events and initiatives, including family engagement activities.
  • Work professionally with parents and staff to promote the academic and social-emotional growth of all students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 


 

 

Qualifications


REQUIREMENTS 

  • High school diploma required; associate’s or higher in education or related field preferred
  • Experience working with children, preferably multilingual learners
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Interest in language development and educational equity
  • Flexible and able to support multiple grade levels
  • Comfortable administering assessments (training provided)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
  • Committed to DC Bilingual’s mission and values
  • Able to pass all required background checks

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Schedule & Attendance: M-F, 8am-4pm. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times.
