Position Duties

WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

This position is responsible for managing various quality and environmental plans of the City. Responsibilities may include: stormwater analysis and design, responding to community concerns; performing various inspections; performing community outreach; and developing programs and services of the department.  

Specifically, as the Stormwater Specialist, you will...

  • Responds to complaints from community members, including those related to illicit discharges and connections, spills and drainage issues.
  • Completes stormwater system analysis and design for projects completed by our Engineering team. 
  • Reviews stormwater models and reports submitted by others outside of the organization.
  • Responsible for upkeep of our Surface Water Management Framework and other guiding stormwater policies, updates to our Stormwater Ordinance and overall Asset Management related to our stormwater infrastructure.
  • Reviews various permit applications for compliance with stormwater management and erosion control requirements. 
  • Schedules and performs inspections, including construction site, Outfall/IDDE and stormwater system.
  • Manages multiple Stormwater programs and services of the department, to include managing websites, record keeping, database management and maintaining relationships with external organizations, government and other entities.
  • Monitors existing and proposed regulations regarding water quality for groundwater and, stormwater.
  • Applies for and manages grant opportunities related to area of responsibility.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Minimum Qualifications

ABOUT YOU:

A successful candidate will have some or all of the following ...
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies or related field and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licensing in:

  • Valid Driver's License;

Knowledge of:
  • Applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations; 
  • Environmental compliance; 
  • Stormwater system maintenance techniques; 
  • Field inspections; 
  • Construction site stormwater management principles; 
  • Stormwater management best practices; 
  • Water quality procedures; 
  • Construction processes and procedures; 
  • Illicit discharge procedures and practices; 
  • AutoCAD, ArcGIS; HydroCAD or SWMM
  • Soil properties; 
  • Federal, state and local permit processes.
Skill in:
  • Community Relations and Advocacy;
  • Conducting field inspections; 
  • Stormwater management; 
  • Maintaining databases; 
  • Record keeping; 
  • Data analysis; 
  • Using maps, databases and computer models; 
  • Operating sampling equipment; 
  • Water testing methodology.
