Duties and Responsibilities

The Communications Officer will be a member of WBG’s Communications team and will provide strategic communications support to IFC’s Trade and Supply Chain Finance (TSCF) program. This person will be responsible for developing and implementing TSCF communications strategies designed to amplify program impact, support business development, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and position the institution as a thought leader. The Communications Officer will provide cross-functional support for other industry verticals, as needed.

Supports corporate, internal, and operational activities via the following specific work areas:

• Strategic Business Marketing: Support strategic positioning of IFC’s offerings in priority markets and enhance visibility of IFC’s value proposition to targeted investor segments. Design and deliver strategic marketing communications that position IFC’s Trade Finance program as a leading solution for SME growth in emerging markets. Conceptualize and supervise the preparation, production and dissemination of communication products (e.g., media packets, news releases, brochures, Q&As, presentations, briefing notes, online and social media content, videos, speeches, blogs, etc.) and thought leadership. Write and/or oversee preparation of high-profile speeches, talking points, op-eds, and presentations, as well as client-facing collateral and internal staff engagement content. Serve as strategic communications advisor to TSCF Global Director.

• Campaigns/Advocacy: Oversee planning, coordination, and logistics, often across multiple teams, for press briefings, IFC-organized industry conferences and seminars, executive missions and speeches, public or broadcast appearances, and other communications-related activities involving external and/or internal audiences. Further develop/strengthen/promote the development impact narrative of TSCF, with a focus on job creation and support of small and medium-sized businesses.

• Stakeholder engagement: Initiate effective professional relationships with key external and/or internal constituencies (e.g., the World Trade Organization, the media, civil society, academia, businesses, government agencies, World Bank Group colleagues, etc.). Develop and implement structured stakeholder engagement plans to ensure alignment, feedback integration, and sustained dialogue across priority audiences.

• Risk management: Work with Risk Management and Issues team to coordinate risk identification and mitigation activities in the context of corporate and operational communication interventions. Focus includes current events, public opinion, social or political issues, and other external or internal developments related to IFC’s thematic work. Contribute tailored communications and stakeholder-risk management advice to teams working on high-risk projects, including meeting clients and conducting stakeholder mapping and analysis. Monitor reputational risks and implement rapid response protocols for media and stakeholder inquiries, ensuring alignment with institutional risk frameworks.

Selection Criteria

  Master’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field, and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in corporate communications, international relations, public affairs, or related field.
  Ability to lead and manage relationships with senior executives and content experts and contribute to strategy development.
  Ability to translate complex concepts into concise, easy-to-understand messages.
  Ability to think strategically and rapidly analyze information from varied sources.
  Ability to learn, adapt, and innovate as new communications challenges arise.
  Self-motivated, creative, excellent organizational skills.
  Excellent interpersonal skills with a willingness to work in a team environment.
  Excellent English writing and editing skills.
