Job Summary/Objective:
The Nurse Manager for Surgical Services is responsible for providing administrative oversight and direction for the organization's surgical areas. This position ensures the delivery of quality patient care by planning, directing, leading, and evaluating nursing care within the department. The Nurse Manager provides accountability for operational, clinical, and financial performance while fostering a culture of excellence and safety.
Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative and clinical leadership for all surgical areas, including pre-op, intra-op, post-op, and recovery.
- Develop and implement departmental goals, policies, and procedures aligned with the organization’s mission and vision.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff within the surgical department to optimize team performance and professional growth.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
- Manage department budgets, including staffing, equipment, and supplies, to ensure financial sustainability.
- Monitor and evaluate clinical outcomes and performance metrics to drive quality improvement initiatives.
- Facilitate staff development and continuing education to maintain a highly skilled and knowledgeable team.
- Coordinate with other hospital departments to streamline processes and improve patient flow.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and collaboration throughout the surgical services department.
- Participate in the recruitment, orientation, and retention of nursing staff.

Education, Certificates, and License:
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; associate’s degree in nursing required.
Certificates / License:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Missouri or the ability to obtain.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience preferred, with at least 2 years in a surgical or leadership role preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting: Regularly lift/move equipment or supplies weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Mobility: Frequent walking, standing, and moving for extended periods.
- Posture: Bending, twisting, and reaching during patient care or equipment management.
- Dexterity: Fine motor skills for operating medical equipment and computer systems.
