Job Summary:

The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing communications programs to support business goals of all Avow companies. This position is responsible for advancement and maintenance of brand integrity, media relations, crisis communications, advertising, print and digital collateral development, promotions, social media and website strategies.

Job Duties include the following:

Communications Strategy Management

  • Meets with departmental/business sector/executive leadership team members to formulate communications strategies to meet corporate goals.
  • Reports regularly on performance of communications tactics against strategies and measurable outcomes.
  • Monitors public perceptions through qualitative research (interviews, focus groups, anecdotal methods) according to available budgets. 
  • Serves in person as member of agency's crisis management/response team. Participation on the emergency response team requires onsite attendance before, during, and after the incident command team assembles.

Communications Staff Management

  • Manages the daily workflow of the Communications department.
  • Ensures that projects are completed on time and to corporate standards. 
  • Completes required performance reviews of all assigned direct reports and conducts counseling and coaching when necessary.
  • Seeks continuing education and professional development opportunities to advance the skills and aptitudes of the team to ensure that Avow is using current technology and tools efficiently and effectively.

Production

  • Serves as copywriter and editor of educational and promotional materials, public announcements, newsletters, fundraising materials, educational tools and more.
  • Manages/maintains the corporate website in partnership with the website host.
  • Works with commercial vendors to facilitate orders, contracts and subscriptions related to corporate branded purchases and projects (e.g,, commercial printers, web designers/hosts, public relations/marketing services consulting agencies, advertising channels, promotional product companies, stock photography, event photography, etc.).
  • Produces creatively designed print and digital communications in collaboration with the team.

Media Outreach

  • Develops a media outreach plan.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local media contacts.
  • Writes and issues press releases.
  • Maintains media contact list.
  • Plans and manages media interviews
  • Actively seeks opportunities to promote organization services in the media.

General

  • Actively participates in management meetings, committees and task forces as needed.
  • Represents the organization at professional and civic organizations as needed/appropriate.
  • Collaborates/assists/attends organizational events as needed (fundraisers, community offerings/celebrations, professional gatherings, etc.).
  • Manages process for ordering and tracking inventory of corporate-use branded materials such as letterhead, envelopes, business cards, etc.
  • Takes photos for agency use as needed.
  •  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education/Experience:
Master’s Degree from accredited college or university preferred. Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Exceptional writing (including proofreading) and customer service skills required.

Language Skills:
Communication skills of reading, writing, and speaking in English. Comfortable speaking in public and to small and large groups of constituents.

Math Skills:
Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages/fractions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Florida Driver’s License.
