Position Type: Full-time 10-month, Non-Exempt (Hourly) with benefits 

Supervisor: Senior Program Manager

Department: Camps and Community / Ski & Snowboard / Other Program Teams (as needed)

Compensation: $22.00-$24.00 per hour (depending on experience)

Location: On-Site (Park City, Utah)


Job Summary:

Program Specialists are versatile and support all areas of program delivery and program support. This position supports multiple departments with assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and administration of adaptive sports, recreation, adventure, groups and competitive activities for people with disabilities. This position will have a primary focus supporting the Camps and Community department year-round and supporting the Ski & Snowboard program 2-3 days a week during the winter. This position will also support other program areas as needed.


This position is a 10-month full-time, year-round position with benefits; there are 8 non-paid weeks each calendar year during the shoulder seasons. It requires regular weekend work and occasional after-hours work for programming. This position is not eligible for remote work. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Camps and Community Department by facilitating Camps, Park City Adult Lifelong Learning (PC ALL), Supported Volunteers, and COACH internships throughout the year.
  • Serve as the Camps Supervisor for all camp sessions including the summer camp season, family camps, and holiday camps throughout the year; this entails supervising part-time/seasonal Camp Counselors and providing direction on scheduling and daily tasks.
  • Assist in teaching adaptive ski and snowboard lessons throughout the winter season to individuals and groups. 
  • Support with adaptive equipment maintenance and rentals when needed.
  • Assist in assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating specific adaptive recreation activities in other program areas including: XC skiing, snowshoe, sled hockey, climbing wall, challenge course, team building, cycling, paddle sports, archery, and water sports.
  • Work with each participant to develop goals and objectives, relative to the day’s activity; create, implement, and manage behavior management plans; provide input and feedback.
  • Conduct and maintain lesson documentation as assigned, including participant assessments, lesson plans, progress notes, evaluations, and incident reports.
  • Support assigned department with administrative duties such as attendance, evaluations, and training materials.
  • Follow risk management protocols in a caring and fun environment for participants, volunteers, and staff.
  • Plan and implement personalized activities and/or games for groups and individual participants with various disabilities.
  • Create and deliver training sessions to other instructors in assigned programs and areas of expertise.
  • Document and report all accidents, incidents, and disciplinary concerns to supervisor. 
  • Assist with key fundraising events and other special events as needed to help advance program goals and support; serve as an ambassador and representative for the National Ability Center.
  • All other duties as specified to meet the needs of programming.

Requirements

  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience teaching adaptive recreation.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of disabilities.
  • Current First Aid and CPR (or the ability to attain).
  • Valid driver’s license. 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Be able to maintain a Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) physical.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant school course-work such as Therapeutic Recreation or Special Education preferred.
  • Relevant activity specific certifications preferred.
  • Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Certification.
  • 1-2 years of experience teaching adaptive ski and/or snowboard lessons.
  • PSIA/AASI certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Able to lift adaptive equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Expectation to work during busy seasons, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors while running programming activities in various weather conditions, including extreme weather conditions for long periods of time.
  • Ability to drive a 15-passenger vehicle while pulling a trailer.
