The Law Department's Operations & Sustainability section works with various City of Cleveland departments on municipal law issues relative to, compliance, contracts, legislation, and providing legal opinions on a variety of matters. The section provides representation for the Departments of Public Utilities, Public Works and Health and other departments on an as needed basis. It also represents the Mayor's Office of Sustainability. Preferred Skills: The ideal applicant will have minimum of four (4) years of transactional work experience in a law firm or with another public sector entity focused on real estate and/or utility work.
Required Skills: The applicant must have strong drafting, research and writing skills. The applicant must also possess excellent verbal skills and be able to effectively communicate with the clients, management and the general public. Applicants must have a J.D. and a license to practice in the State of Ohio, as well as be in good standing with the Ohio Supreme Court. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, passion for public service and an ability to work with staff, attorneys at all levels and the departments represented. The applicant must be able to work well as a team member in a fast paced environment and be able to meet set deadlines.
Duties: The duties may include researching municipal law issues, preparing legal opinions, drafting legislation, resolving customer disputes, reviewing terms and conditions of contracts, negotiating and drafting complex contracts and providing legal counsel to various departments on a range of municipal law issues and any other duties as maybe assigned.
