Job Description
- Installs, monitors, and troubleshoots refrigeration and air conditioning equipment according to building design specifications, blueprints, schematic drawings and maintenance and repair manuals.
- Disassembles repairs and reassembles air conditioners, growth chambers, cold rooms, refrigerators and freezers and equipment. System sizes vary from 100 tons and below.
- Cuts, bends, welds, etc., to connect tubing and refrigerant lines.
- Checks resistance, amperage, and voltages on equipment.
- Lays out piping systems for air-conditioning equipment systems.
- Installs and maintains electronic controls, installs, and maintains pneumatic controls.
- Monitors building systems equipment, maintains operating logs, records gauge readings, operates and maintains building systems equipment and repairs or replaces parts, calibrates thermostats, adjusts, and assigns pneumatic transistors and tests pneumatic controlled valve actuators.
- Keeps records and maintains operating file on machine information as needed for proper service and maintenance.
- Maintains inventory of items used in repair and maintenance work.
- Operates refrigeration recovery equipment in compliance with EPA guidelines and handles CGC, HCFC, and A2L refrigerants
- Installs, monitors, troubleshoots, and makes needed repairs to residential and commercial refrigeration equipment.
- Requires the ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously. Requires the ability to reach, grasp, lift, carry and place moderately heavy load. Requires the ability to operate motor vehicles on occasion.
- Work with related equipment up to including:
- Centrifugal chillers and air-cooled chillers
- VRF systems
- Gas fired heating and DX cooling makeup air units
- Water source heat pumps
- Hydronic heating/cooling, including geothermal
- 2/pipe and 4/pipe fan coil units
- Pneumatic and Digital Controls
- And other HVAC equipment
- Answer and respond to requested repairs on HVAC equipment such as leaks, defects, condensers, and compressors.
- Treats condensing water with proper chemicals, as necessary.
- Operates applicable testing equipment.

Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalency
- Two (2) years of experience in refrigeration/air condition installation and repair work. A certificate of completion from a vocational school or an Associate degree in this trade area may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
- Must have EPA CFC Certification for refrigerants.
- Must have a valid driver’s license by the time of hire and maintain the license throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years or more of experience in refrigeration/air condition/refrigeration equipment, DX residential air conditioning units, DX commercial air conditioning units and small chiller systems 100 tons and smaller, installation and repair work.
- Experience working in a college or university setting as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience working with HVAC systems in large multi-storied institutional or residential buildings as evidenced by application materials.
- Electrical experience including a working knowledge of the National Electric Code as evidenced by application materials.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints as demonstrated by work experience.
- Experience in a customer service role as evidenced by application materials.
Position Overview
Work Schedule is 7:30am-4pm Monday to Friday. Facilities Maintenance also offers a flexible work schedule option, 4-day work week 10-hour days, Monday to Thursday, or Tuesday to Friday.
