Job Duties:
· Assessing patient eye condition.
· Examining and testing eye vision and defects.
· Refers for minor and major eye surgery.
· Prescribe effective medication for eye problems.
· Prescribe the use of eye glasses, contact lenses, eye drops and other eye drugs.
· Give prior advice to the patient conditions.
· Writing referral notices to doctors.
· Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness.
· Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases if state laws permit.
· Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.
· Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors.
· Remove foreign bodies from the eye.
· Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre- and post-operative care.
· Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.
· Refers for vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation.
· Able to diagnose other major medical diseases.
· Refer patient to other physicians.
· Promotes effective working relations and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the Clinic’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
· Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the Clinic’s overall mission.
· Responsibly follows the Clinic Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
· Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
