Job Description:

The purpose of Anglo American Marketing is to sustainably maximise cash flows from the marketing of Anglo American products and services. Whether from our portfolio of high-quality and long-life assets or through complementary third-party production, our Marketing business offers a reliable supply of essential metals and minerals, with a focus on shaping long term, direct commercial relationships that place the expectations of our customers firmly at the centre of our approach. We do this by providing a broad range of integrated product solutions that aim to be tailored to our customers’ specific needs, responsibly produced or sourced, and complemented by high-quality service support.

The Specialist - Sustainability is a cross-functional role within Marketing, working with commercial, strategy and technical colleagues to embed sustainability in Marketing’s day-to-day activities and respond to increasing customer and regulatory sustainability needs.

Key responsibilities include:

Responsible Sourcing

  • Conduct sustainability due diligence on third-party suppliers across Marketing’s global commodity supply chain
  • Support the integration of sustainability considerations into governance processes and procurement decisions
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of responsible sourcing regulation, industry standards and trends
  • Respond to customers’ responsible sourcing queries

Climate Change

  • Assist with annual Scope 3 emissions data collection and reporting
  • Support Marketing’s Scope 3 decarbonisation strategy

Other Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Marketing’s Commercial Strategy team on sustainability-related projects   
  • Develop working relationships beyond immediate team, fostering collaboration and synergies for the Marketing business
Qualifications:

Specific requirements:

Essential

  • Excellent critical thinking skills, able to form a logical hypothesis from limited or conflicting information and communicate clear conclusions to stakeholders
  • A diligent and organized worker with good data and document management skills (Excel, Word, Sharepoint)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate within and across teams to get the benefit of others’ perspectives, experience or expertise
  • Results oriented, capable of holding self and others to account on delivery
  • A good team player; happy to work as part of the team rather than as an individual contributor, in many occasions

Desirable

  • Basic understanding of commodity markets and trading practices
  • Awareness of sustainability challenges in the mining and metals sector
  • Familiarity with sustainability concepts (e.g. human rights, responsible sourcing, GHG accounting)
  • 2+ years’ experience in a commodity or sustainability-related role
