Tasks Include
Department Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the produce department.
- Ensure that the department is well-stocked, clean, and organized.
- Develop and implement procedures for efficient department management.
- Assist with merchandising, receiving product, rotating product, and organizing product in the backroom and cooler.
Staff Supervision:
- Recruit, train, and supervise produce department staff.
- Schedule employees and ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
- Monitor staff performance and provide feedback or coaching as needed.
Inventory Control:
- Manage inventory levels and ensure that the department is adequately stocked.
- Monitor product quality and freshness, removing any expired or damaged items.
- Place orders for produce and coordinate deliveries with suppliers.
Merchandising and Display:
- Create visually appealing displays to attract customers.
- Plan and execute seasonal promotions and special displays.
- Ensure that all products are properly labeled with prices and product information.
Customer Service:
- Address customer inquiries and resolve any issues or complaints.
- Assist customers with product selection and provide information about produce.
- Ensure that the department provides excellent customer service at all times.
Budget and Financial Management:
- Manage the department's budget and control expenses.
- Monitor sales and adjust inventory levels based on demand.
- Analyze financial reports and take corrective actions as needed.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure that the department complies with all health and safety regulations.
- Implement and enforce food safety and sanitation procedures.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and address any potential hazards.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth store operations.
- Communicate with store management about department performance and needs.
- Participate in store meetings and contribute to overall store strategy.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Minimum 2 years’ produce/supervisory experience which includes excellent product knowledge and rotation, merchandising, ordering and inventory control experience
- Superior customer service, supervisory and communication skills
- Proven ability to remain calm under pressure
- Capable of standing for a prolonged period of 4-8 hours; of bending, twisting and turning and reaching; and of lifting up to 65 pounds
- Must be fully available (days, evenings and weekends)
