Job Profile

This position is responsible for the testing, monitoring, operations and the preventative maintenance of the City of Cambridge’s waste water and storm water collection systems. A Waste Water operators principle responsibilities listed below:

What you will be doing

  • Works within the Wastewater subdivision, performing preventative maintenance activities on wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, including sewer main flushing, clearing lateral blockages, investigating spills and sewer-use bylaw infractions, removing debris from various stormwater infrastructure (i.e. ponds, inlets, outlets, grates, etc.). Comprehensive knowledge of all collection system infrastructure
  • Full proficiency operating all equipment associated with sanitary/storm maintenance including Vactor, Flusher Truck, CCTV Camera Inspection equipment, cranes, winches, confined space retrieval, pumps, etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pump station facility and operations, SCADA functions and operation, force main and gravity main systems and related maintenance.
  • Acts as Wastewater Lead Hand for short durations
  • Understands all Wastewater and Stormwater standard operating procedures, Wastewater Quality Management System, work order management, and all relevant corporate policies and procedures.

Education

High school Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
Plus additional program/course(s) of up to six months or equivalent

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Over 36 months, up to and including 48 months of related experience
  • Possess Wastewater Collections License - Level 1 as issued by the MECP
  • Valid DZ License
  • Ability to operate various pieces of equipment
  • Ability to operate small maintenance tools and hand tools
  • Ability to work with different computer software 
  • Post secondary education considered an asset.  

 

Please Note:  Candidates who are not fully licensed but have their wastewater collection OITs may be considered for the trainee rate.

We will ask you for these items if you are hired

Confirmation that you are physically able to perform the essential duties of the position, as assessed through our third party provider, prior to commencement in the position.
Current and valid Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position.
Valid DZ driver's license
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour
Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.

Hours of work

Currently 7:00am – 3:00pm, 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri  
Any 10 w/n core hrs, Alternate

Your compensation

This position is located within our CUPE 32 (outside workers union) compensation salary schedule Job Grade 7 and has an hourly rate of pay is as follows (2025 Rate):
Starting Rate:            $34.63 per hour
12-Month Rate:         $35.70 per hour
24-Month Rate:         $36.78 per hour
