What will you be doing!
- Participating in the IH (Industrial Hygiene) program implementation by providing assistance in the creation and development of new IH programs or during the update of existing IH programs.
- Developing communications, conducting training sessions and delivering presentations on IH-related subjects.
- Participating in inspections, audits and program reviews.
- Compiling summary information and completing IH surveys, assessments and technical reports.
- Conducting research as assigned.
- Participating in internal and external training courses as required, as per CNL’s IH Tech training plan.
- Recommending, implementing and monitoring required engineering controls, work practices, personal protective equipment and respirators to eliminate or reduce physical, biological and chemical exposures.
- Performing Confined Space Initial Hazard Assessments/Confined Space Entry Surveys and ensuring surveys comply with the relevant analytical and interpretation documentation.
- Providing line managers and employees with survey reports indicating the results, field observations and recommendations.
- Providing the Certified Industrial Hygienist with IH monitoring data, workplaces, and reports for interpretation or in order to access necessary controls and take further action.
- Supporting the implementation of CNL and Corporate IH policies, programs and procedures.
- Serving as the IH Subject matter expert for designated topics.
- Performing physical, biological and chemical hazard assessments to support operations and ensure compliance with relevant procedures, programs, standards and/or regulations.
- Performing complex IH-related field sampling and testing of physical, biological and chemical stressors, including but not limited to: asbestos, silica, lead, mercury, mould, noise, non-ionizing radiation, and extreme temperature.
- Arranging and/or performing compressor and breathing air quality surveys, and ventilation surveys, including fume hood testing.
- Providing additional support to facilities on IH-related matters.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology or equivalent formal education in a field relevant to the position (i.e., industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental science, biology or chemistry) OR
- Secondary School Graduation diploma or equivalent and has more than 3 years pertinent experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training
- Experience
A minimum of 3 years of work experience in industrial hygiene field operations, or a combination of experience and IH-related training/education, is preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize work assignments and manage duties through efficient planning, time management, detail orientation and prioritization.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication (active listening, oral expression/comprehension) and training/presentation skills.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service.
- Familiarity of office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to engage audience through presentation skills.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Field work is a cornerstone activity in this role.
- 4 days work week (10 hours a day)
- Occasional travel to other sites, specifically travel between Deep River and Chalk River sites.
- Ability to be physically active (standing, walking) for extended periods of time.
- Ability to manage stairs, ladders and other egress equipment to enter all site and building areas, including confined spaces.
- Ability to use personal protective equipment, including a respirator.
